Asked in Israel, Sea of Galilee
What is the size of the Sea of Galilee?

The Sea of Galilee is approximately 33 miles in circumference,
about 13 miles long, and eight miles wide.
Answer
A large-scale map shows the Sea of Galilee (also known as Lake
Tiberias) as being an irregularly shaped, fresh-water lake,
approximately 12km at its widest, and roughly 21 km (~ 13 miles)
north to south. In the third century, Porphyry described the Sea of
Galilee: "Experts in the truth of these places report that there
is no sea there, though they do refer to a small, river-fed lake at
the foot of the mountains in Galilee near the city Tiberius, a lake
easily traversed in small canoes in no more than two hours and
insufficiently capacious for waves or storms."
Asked in Jerusalem, Israel, Sea of Galilee
Is Jerusalem in the galilee?

No, it isn't.
No. The Galilee is the northern region of Israel. It is a very
green region of the country, especially in the east, where it sits
along the Sea of Galilee. Jerusalem, by contrast is in the hilly
region of Judah in the south-central part of the country. It is
over an hour's drive to get to the Galilee from Jerusalem.

When did Sea of Galilee change to Sea of Tiberias?

The Sea of Galilee is also known as Kinneret, Lake of Gennesaret
and Lake Tiberias. The name, Sea of Galilee, is purely of Christian
origin and probably originated in Mark's Gospel. On one view, the
author of Mark wanted to portray the relatively tiny lake as
a sea, in order to match the image of great waves that threatened
to sink the fishing boat with the disciples. Emperor Tiberius
reigned from 14 to 37 CE, and this name was used long before Mark's
Gospel for an important city built on the lake's southern shore. At
some stage, the lake came to be called Lake Tiberias, although not
by the Jews, who continued to refer to it as Kinneret.
John's Gospel, believed to have been written in the early
decades of the second century, mentions the Sea of Galilee, saying
this was the same as the Sea of Tiberias, and from then onwards
uses the name, Sea of Tiberias.
Asked in New Testament, Sea of Galilee
What did Jesus do in Galilee?

Jesus performed most all His miracles in the area of
Roman occupied Palestine called Galilee, which is west of the Sea
of Galilee.
Miracles such as the turning of the water into wine, health to
the sick, giving sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to
voiceless, life to the dead.
He also did most of His teaching there as well.
The gospel of John chapter 20 verses 30 & 31 tell us:
30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book:
31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life
through his name.

Why is the Sea of Galilee actually called a sea?

In general use, the word "sea" is used to refer to large bodies
of salt water, such as the oceans and partially landlocked waters
such as the Mediterranean Sea or landlocked bodies such as the
Caspian Sea. However, "sea" is also occasionally used to refer to
large fresh water bodies, such as the Sea of Galilee. The Hebrew
word is "yam" - "from an unused root meaning "to roar." The name is
used in Hebrew to refer to a sea (as breaking in noisy surf) or a
large body of water. The Sea of Galilee often has storms that raise
the surf to a rather noisy pitch. So perhaps this is the reason why
the ancients called it a 'sea'.
