How do you play Sesame street on recorder?
You first need to know how to hold the recorder. Thumb placed on the bottom circle on the recorder and other fingers loose. Here are some key tips:
B: One finger; First circle
A: Two fingers; First and second circle
G: Three fingers; First, second, and third circle
C: One finger; Second circle
Use your left hand to hold it, with your left thumb on the hole on the back of the recorder, and your fingers covering the top 4 holes. Use the fingers of your right hand to cover the rest of the holes. Exhale gently through the mouthpiece to make a sound.
There are fingering charts available all over the internet, but the biggest thing to remember is that in general, the more holes you cover, the lower the note.
On the recorder there are 8 holes. You play the recorder with your left hand in the beginning. So take your left thumb and put it on the hole on the back of the recorder. Put your left pointer finger on the first hole. That's a B. Put your middle finger on the next hole. That's an A. Put your ring finger on the third hole. That's a G. These are the basic notes that you have to know to play recorder.
Now that you know the notes, try a very easy song.
Hot Cross Buns
To play Hot Cross Buns you need to know the notes B, A and G. ( Before you learn this song, you practice the notes and make sure you have them down )
The notes for Hot Cross Buns are-
B-A-G
B-A-G
G-G-G-G
A-A-A-A
B-A-G
Make sure your thumb is on the hole on the back of the recorder. (It's the ONLY hole on the back of the recorder )
Put your thumb on the hole and your pointer finger on the first hole on the front of the recorder. Blow. If you made a squeaky sound, 1. Your fingers aren't completely covering the holes or 2. you blew too hard. If you blew and it made a sound that was not too squeaky or too low, you did it right. Next put your middle finger down on the second hole. Blow. If you squeaked them one of the two reasons is probably happening right now. Fix it and keep trying. If you did it, wonderful! Now put your ring finger down on the third hole. Blow. If you squeaked, you'll know why, fix it and try again. If you didn't, that's awesome. Now keep your fingers on the G, All the three fingers are down, and blow 4 times. If you squeaked, you'll know why, and if not, great. Now lift up your ring finger and you have an A. Blow 4 times. Again if you squeaked, you'll know why if not your almost done. Now go back to a B. Go back to your pointer and thumb finger. Blow. Put one finger down into an A. Blow. Put your ring finger down to a G. Blow. If you did it, awesome. If not, keep trying! It can take a lot of practice.
Blow at a constant rate through the mouthpiece while unblocking and blocking the appropriate holes with your fingers. A basic recorder music book will show you the specific notes and provide some basic songs to start with.
