The remora sucks on to the shark using a pad on its back like a suction cup. It can breathe because as the shark swims through the water it pushes the water through the remora's gills. Which lets it absorb the oxygen out of the water to breathe.
Can the scales of a shark cut human skin?
Sharks have dentricles or bony platelets not scales. Their skin will slice human skin like rows of tiny blades. Though the cuts are straight and many, they do not cut through the skin of humans. They can rub your skin to try and tear or cause abrasion to sense if you are prey. But, once they do not detect fish, they should move on. That has been my experience of being rubbed by sharks.
