Anyway, The Axel Roller Rink (or Axle) was located in Norridge on Harlem Avenue at about Montrose (4400 N). When viewing from Harlem Ave The Norridge Theater is set far back on the lot to the right and the Axel was close to Harlem and on the left. The building still stands but now houses several retail stores in the front and a childrens pizza place on the side where the main entrance to the floor used be. There was also an Axel Roller Rink in DesPlaines or Niles just north of Golf Road on Milwaukee Avenue. It was very popular in the mid and Late 1970s and closed sometime in the early 1980s. The building is still there and has housed a SYMS clothing store for more 15 years. It closed in the fall of 1985. The one in Norridge was previously known as the Hub Roller Rink. We used to go there in the 50's for fun on a Friday or Saturday, and to pick up girls. My grandmother and grand uncle taught me to skate at the Norridge location in the very early 1970's. On Thursday Nights they had family skates that were so much fun. It was so colorful and exciting to see the people and skate to the Organ. There was a multi-colored sign that lit up to show what kind if skate it was. (Group, couples, fox-trot, free skate..) The Axel was my favorite place as a kid. The last time I was there I rang in New Years 1984. The years had changed it from a delightful family place of days gone by, to a Disco Haven, but never as much of a Disco Haven as Rainbo became.... The same company, M&R Amusement owned three rinks. All were called The Axle.

If you have your own skates it is cheaper and if you take lessons at the icerink normally you dont have to pay to use the rink. It is normally 7-8 dollars. It depends

Well you see in figure skating when your just doing freeskate you must not have vocals because its just plain out the rules. But their is more than just freeskate, their is Interpretive aka Artistic. Which means you only need one spin and everything else can be creative hand movements and crazy turns. In your Interpretive you may have vocals, well because, that's just the rules

i am not sure but i think its hard rock Canadian maple like most other skate brands. The only thing i am sure of is that they are very durable an strong because i have one.

It depends on what type of figure skating you are referring to. If it is a beginner skater, athletic pants (no jeans) with a long sleeve shirt, jacket and gloves. If it is a advanced skater on a freestyle session, athletic pants or a skating dress with tights and gloves.

You have to find a bunch of women (18 and up) who are willing to play, you have to get sponsors, you have to get refs, you have to find arenas to practice in and you have to be able to supply good equipment for your girls to buy. in order to train your girls, you could do it yourself, or hire a trainer to help you. then there is the whole desicion of what kind of league do you want? flat-track or banked-track? this really is a deep question. I suggest you get in touch with some one who knows more about it and not just search it up on wikianswers.

I'm am at this stage and i suggest that you practise back spins, three jumps and loops. If you struggle with the rotation, as you suggest, be sure to practise off the ice. Be sure to pull in tight in the air. you should check that you are on the right axis when you jump. I suggest going on youtube, there are some really helpful videos there. hope I helped!

Yes, most amature leagues minimum age is 18, however, if you live in the states and you are a girl, aged 12-17 you probably will find a team of 'derby brats' near you (a junior league to train and play in until you are old enough to try out for the big league) However, if you live in Canada or anywhere else, you probably will have to wait until your 18.

The art performed in ARTistic rollerskating is how the skater moves to show grace or skills. It is exactly like figure skating, just slightly harder because of the momentum you have to control. Roller skates are heavier which makes it harder. It is an art itself. the way the skater moves and jumps and dances on there skates is the art itself.
