Is there an ice skating rink and a roller skating rink combined?
No, there isn't because the wood wouldn't be able to withstand the cold needed to freeze the ice.
Yes there is or was, It was called "Side by Side" there was a roller skating rink on one side of the building and on the other side was an ice skating rink. I use to go to it all the time when I was younger. I havent been able to find any websites for it though anymore. Such a shame.

Hi. To be able to spin on the ice is not always simple. Firstly, you need to have a good entry (you can google this to get a good idea of what it is). If your entry is too shallow or it doesn't have enough curve it's likely you will travel or end up doing a 3-turn. Try to curve the entry as much as you can on a slightly bent knee. Then slowly rise up and pull your arms in to your chest and hold the open/upright position until you feel that the spin is well centered. Just keep doing this for for a bit until you get the hang of it. Later on you can try to cross your leg over the other one to spin faster. If you're doing this remember to put your free ankle by your knee and then slowly slide it down. Try not to spin on your toepick. Keep practicing and it will come. Good luck!
P.S: I'm trying to find a way to stop going up onto my toe when I spin. If you have any advice or know anyone who can help me to fix this please, please, please let me know! It would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Are Olympic figure skaters making a living at figure skating?
It depends on the skater and what country they are from. Some will "turn pro" meaning they can not compete in another Olympics or other official championships, but they can go on tour with ice shows such as "Stars On Ice" or "Disney On Ice" or various other productions. If they choose to tour with the shows after "retiring" from competitive skating, they can make a living at it. For a few skaters, the best in the world, endorsement deals can be substantial, especially right after a big success like winning gold at the Olympics, and especially if they are from a wealthy, free-market country like the USA or Japan.
In some countries Olympic skaters are funded completely by the government, so their training, housing, food, etc costs them nothing, but they also get little in return for their accomplishment (though the government often gives cash prizes for winning metals and incentives such as a new house, etc for earning such an honor.)
Thus, while it is possible for Olympic figure skaters to make a living at figure skating post-Olympics, it is neither a lucrative profession nor a sure bet (the cost of ice time and coaching fees in order to get to the Olympic games if a skater is from the US for example, may be well over $100,000.) And while there is always the option of the traveling ice show, not all high level figure skaters want to do them, and they can of course pursue other careers after their competitive skating days are over ... including coaching or judging.

How much does it cost to get a hockey skate sharpened?
$5.00 is fair. Sharpen about ebvery 6 - 10 hard skates unless you get a nick in your blade. Sometimes nicks can be "honed" off with a stone you can buy for about $2.00. There is also a new hand sharpener that has 2 teeth on it made of ceramic. These actually sharpen very good if you cant make it to the shop & they are $20.00 and last forever and could do the whole team all year! Good luck

Where was the Axel Roller Skating Rink?
A young artist named Griesel, with the following biography, "Grisel was born and raised in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Her time as a teenager was spent commuting to Hyde Park's Kenwood Academy, where she was an awarded fine artist, and learning from Chicago artists in clubs in Pilsen, Wicker Park and Bucktown. As an adult, she earned a B.A. in journalism and established herself as a journalist at Extra Bilingual Community Newspapers. She earned her master of education degree from The University of Illinois at Chicago, where she taught language arts and research writing to high school students. " wrote the following lyrics to this song: "At the Axel Roller Rink The wheels were spinning, were spinning Breeze hitting our faces tasted of winning, of winning But with all the spinning 'round The dizziness was bound To make us come down, down " Found at website: Louderarts.com I have no clue as to what the first so-called answer is supposed to mean. Anyway, The Axel Roller Rink (or Axle) was located in Norridge on Harlem Avenue at about Montrose (4400 N). When viewing from Harlem Ave The Norridge Theater is set far back on the lot to the right and the Axel was close to Harlem and on the left. The building still stands but now houses several retail stores in the front and a childrens pizza place on the side where the main entrance to the floor used be. There was also an Axel Roller Rink in DesPlaines or Niles just north of Golf Road on Milwaukee Avenue. It was very popular in the mid and Late 1970s and closed sometime in the early 1980s. The building is still there and has housed a SYMS clothing store for more 15 years. It closed in the fall of 1985. The one in Norridge was previously known as the Hub Roller Rink. We used to go there in the 50's for fun on a Friday or Saturday, and to pick up girls. My grandmother and grand uncle taught me to skate at the Norridge location in the very early 1970's. On Thursday Nights they had family skates that were so much fun. It was so colorful and exciting to see the people and skate to the Organ. There was a multi-colored sign that lit up to show what kind if skate it was. (Group, couples, fox-trot, free skate..) The Axel was my favorite place as a kid. The last time I was there I rang in New Years 1984. The years had changed it from a delightful family place of days gone by, to a Disco Haven, but never as much of a Disco Haven as Rainbo became.... The same company, M&R Amusement owned three rinks. All were called The Axle.
Addresses:
In Countryside, on Route 66, just east of LaGrange Road
In Norridge, 4510 N. Harlem. Phone 453-3114 formerly The Hub - for much info on this rink visit the related link
In Niles, on Milwaukee Avenue north of Golf Rd. Phone 297-7030
