Although they are not popular like in the United States and Canada, univerisities and colleges in the United Kingdom do indeed have fraternities. A notable fraternity chapter in the UK is the chapter of Zeta Psi who have made Oxford University their home. The most probable reasoning for the unpopularity of "Greek life" in the UK is that students do not share the same unit cohesion to other members of their respected post-secondary institutions as seen in the United States and Canada. Many people in the US and Canada often reside at, or close to, their institution, which is uncommon in the UK. An example of how this works is quite similar to boarding schools in the UK. The fact that Americans and Canadians are essentially emmersed in their university for at least four years (if successful) breeds the possibility for a lot of unit cohesion from various students in the form of clubs. Hence, the popularity of fraternities. As well, although going on to post-secondary education is relatively common of all Canadians, (I don't want to speak on behalf of Americans, due to the fact I'm Canadian, and haven't researched the commonality of secondary schoo grads going to post secondary institutions) there is still a high level of status to going to university, which many are proud of. Many people in Canada are very proud of being able to say "I go to Queen's" or "I go to McGill" and having been in a fraternity is just another way of showing that you're proud to have gone to university, and essentially made the most of it.

The function and duties of the president in the fraternity is that the president must be in patience, be a good leader as the president in the fraternity and must be able to understand the when it is right or wrong that something must be implemented and be able to know the desired things to be happen in the agenda and also in the fraternal ways. The duties of the president in the fraternity is that he must be respected and he must set a time for a meeting and it is his/her duty to help and guide his fellow brod/sis in a proper way and he/she be accommodated to some learnings that might be encounter.

There are two types of fraternal market; fraternal service organizations and college fraternities. Fraternal service organizations are community civic groups like Boy scouts, the YMCA or the Shriners and veterans related groups. These big groups have subdivision in each city that meet monthly and usually run many community events. College Fraternities on the other hand usually only have meetings during the summer and events are booked years in advance. Unofficially it’s the Alpha’s. Why? Because AKA founding member Ethel H Lyles was inspired by her then boyfriend George Lyles who was a member of the beta chapter of Alpha Phi Alphi founded at Howard University. Ethel would later become one of the founding members of Alpha Kappa Alpha at Howard. Both Ethel & George were presidents of their respective chapters at Howard in 1908 in their senior year. Both Ethel & George were also “Sumner High School” graduates from St. Louis. Both Ethel & George would later marry and have one child George III who would also later become an Alpha man. It can then be said quite factually that Alpha Phi Alpha inspired Alpha Kappa Alpha. Ski-Phi! Now you know the facts behind the matter.

Phi Mu stands for "sisters eternal." The secret handshake involves grasping hands, extending the middle and pointer finger, and squeezing 3 times I believe it is. At initiation the girls are asked to wear a white dress with a slip underneath. The "big" sisters help the girls change into robes as a symbol that your big sister is helping you out. They wear these crazy ropes around their shoulders and chests in addition to the white robes.
