What did King Leonidas and the brave 300 do?
They helped 7000 Greek warriors from other cities hold the pass at Thermopylae to hold up the Persian army and force a sea battle in the nearby strait at Artemesion. When the Greeks lost the sea battle, the pas was abandoned, but the Spartan and Thespian contingents continued to hold the pass to let the other Greek soldiers escape before the Persian cavalry broke through and rode them down in open country. They went down to a man, bravely sacrificing themselves to let their comrades get away safely.
Was Sparta's government at all democratic?
Yes - they had assemblies of male citizens who voted on issues put before them by the Council.
Why did Sparta and Athens not trust each other?
For a long period they were allies. Then after Athens established an empire after the Persian Wars, it became intrusive of other city-states and the Peloponnesian League led by Sparta tried to limit this.

There was no school test, it is a modern invention. You would fail the school test if you can't write a question in better English that that above.

The Spartan state. It allocated the produce of seven serfs (helots) to each Spartan male citizen, which freed them from farming and allowed them to concentrate on military training.
They conquered neighbouring territories and made the inhabitants into serfs who provided part of their crops to the Spartan state.. This freed the Spartan males to concentrate on military training instead of farming for subsistence.

Not at all. It was a closed society with its own processes to conduct itself and resolve its own issues. While Spartans have given thier name to certain characteristics, they exist as historical interest, not a role models for today.
