There have been several variations of the company name, but never just "J Stevens". The "Springfield" name was used from 1920 until about 1948 and during this time the company was called J. Stevens Arms Co. The type is determined by looking at the gun: single shot, double barrel, pump, etc. The gauge, if not marked on the barrel, can be determined by measuring the chamber. 147K MAY be the model number. I have not found this model listed in any of my references, however if it is a single shot or double barrel, few models differ significantly from others, so many are not listed individually.

The 'Eclipse' shotguns were typical hardware-store catalog offerings in the late 1800's through about 1910. Most of these were imported from Belgium, and will have the ELG in an oval proofmark underneath the barrels. Incorrect. Some shotguns do just have a bead at the muzzle's end ... but, shotguns do indeed have aiming sights available. Typically, a shotgun designed to shoot rifled slugs will have conventional, adjustable iron sights with the rear sight mounted in the area above the trigger & and a blade sight ... sometimes with a colored line on the front sight. A typical name for shotgun sights is called Ghost Ring Sights. It came standard on my Mossberg 500 12 Ha. Shotgun.
I just purchased one at a garage sale (May 2013) for $150. It is in excellent condition and came with a 3 X 9 Bushnell scope. I loaded it up with 10 22 long rifle carts. and shot them as fast as I could pull the trigger. Not bad for a 40 year old 22. Haven't tested accuracy as have not been out to the woods yet. I think they sold new for about $40 without scope in 1970. So $150 seems a good deal these days. Besides, it is vintage.

Give me the name exactly as it is marked on the side of the gun. That will determine if it is really 120 years old because the name changed in 1886. Stevens always built solid and dependable guns, but they do not have much collector appeal except for the very early "boys' rifles" and the smoothbore versions of these rifles.

Nearly all of the older (pre 1995) Smith and Wesson products had the term "Marcas Registradas" meaning trademarked or equavalent to the ™ or ® in spanish stamped near the S&W logo. Smith and Wesson made many revolvers and "pistols" in Cal .22 long rifle. You would have to specify the model and condition of the pistol for any value to be estimated.
