The origins of the first stained glass windows are lost in history. The technique probably came from jewelry making, cloisonn and mosaics. Stained glass windows as we know them, seemed to arise when substantial church building began. By the 10th century, depictions of Christ and biblical scenes were found in French and German churches and decorative designs found in England.

Why transparent glass of windows if not wiped off ragularly appears hazy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

1. The air contains dust particles along with other gases. These dust particles stick to the window and make it appear hazy.

2. Air contains water vapour. So when the air containing water vapour gets in contact with the window, the water creates stains on the window and make it appear hazy. Thus transparent windows should be wiped regularly.

How is stain glass made?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Use a piece of wood the size you would like the picture frame and cut out the size you would prefer for the picture in the middle. Typically you can find a plain picture frame at your local craft school just for this use. Glue each piece of glass on the frame leaving gaps in-between for the grout. Let glue fully dry. Then pour grout all over and wipe excess off. Once finished filling the grouts use a rag and wipe clean the glass. Let grout dry some then go back and use a damp wipe to fully clean each piece of glass, before the grout dries completely.

How do you replace the window glass?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is really one of those jobs best left to the pros. Seriously it costs less than $200 for parts and labor, and it's done in an hour or two. If you try yourself you will take much longer, and will most likely leak. If you are still set on doing it yourself you will need a special wire caulking saw (purchased at an automotive store), and lots of caulking. Remove the trim around the windshield not easy, but do-able. Take the wire and shove one end through the caulking on the existing windshied so that half the wire now is inside the truck, and half is outside. With you on the inside and a friend on the outside saw the wire back and forth until you have traced the entire windshield (carefull if you are trying to save the glass it is easy to break it at this stage). Remove the old glass, and clean all the the old caulking off. Put in new caulking, and install the new glass. It will probably leak. Good luck.

Most often in Catholic churches, these pictures are the Stations of the Cross. What will happen if the world ran out of gold?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Discovery channel has a program that answers this and it is scary. Things that require a daily timer or maintenance of some sort would go bad. Gates with electric locks would open and let out what ever is behind the gate from a dog to a lion. Gas valves would or could blow up. Anything that used electricity in some way would have a problem. On a local level people can live without electricity. It was done for centuries. Candles, gas lamps, oil lamps, and a fireplace can give light. The fireplace also can be used for cooking and heat. To keep things cold ice would have to be brought in everyday. It is possible to live without electricity.
