Factors controlling secretion of the stomach?

The parietal cell in the stomach secrets gastric acid, which is hydrochloric acid (HCl). The Secretion of HCl by the parietal cell is stimulated by receptors for acetylcholine (muscarinic), histamine, and gastrin. The enterochromaffin cells (ECL) also have gastrin receptors and muscarinic receptors. ECL cells release histamine which reacts with H2 receptors (histamine 2 receptors) on parietal cells. Somatostatin is released by delta cells and decreases histamine release by ECL cells.

Can filaria produce acid in the stomach?

Well, the stomach already contains acid. But...

Filariasis is caused by nematode worms in the superfamily known as Filarioidea. There are three groups of nematodes that cause this: Lymphatic Filariasis, Subcutaneous Filariasis, and Serous Cavity Filariasis. The first group occupies the Lymphatic system (including Lymph nodes). The second group dwells in the fatty layer of the skin. The third group occupies the serous cavity of the abdomen. You receive these nematodes either by blood-sucking creatures like mosquitoes or by copepod crustaceans. The filarial worms will continue to mature in your body.

It would seem that the group which dwells in the serous cavity in the abdomen may cause the stomach to produce extra stomach acid as a defense mechanism. However, as far as I know, there is no evidence for this.

What is this dent in my stomach?

It's called a belly button. Everyone has one (except Adam and Eve).

What can you do when your stomach is growling?

Haha, I had this once too. It was under a test -of course- and I wasn't really hungry. Then suddently: GROOOOOOWL!!! My stomach began embarrasing me. Everyone in class heard it. The worst part was when the cute boy next to me told me to get some food.

My answer is: Before you have something like a test, eat something that fills well. Or if you don't want to eat, drink some water. Not too much, that can cause sloshing. And if you feel your stomach is going to make noise, make another sound, like flipping the pages or coughing. And if it is heard, don't make too much fuss about it. Everyone has it once in a while.

What is wrong if you are frequently urinating have upset stomach all day long and pain in the area where your kidneys or ovaries are?

There are a number of things it could be - gastro, kidney stones, urinary tract infection. You will need to take other things into account such as your age, lifestyle, fever, before making a diagnoses. I would drink lots and lots of water (no sugar drinks) and see a doctor if it is still there after 24 hours.

How long is food in your stomach?

This depends on a variety of factors including the type of food, your level of activity and what else you intake over the period of digestion.

Food can stay in the stomach anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

Small amounts of easy to digest material will pass through the stomach in just a few minutes

The more food added and the thickness and density of the food, the longer it will take.

Also, including fluids such as water will cause digestion to take even longer as you will be watering down the stomach acids.

Large amounts of hard to digest food which have been consumed along with liquids may stay in the stomach for 6 to 8 hours.

The average is 2 to 4 hours for a small meal with moderate fluid intake.

Can you have a partial stomach transplant?

Currently, full stomach transplants have been performed (successfully) but as far as I'm aware, "partial" ones have not been performed. This may be because (as strange is it may seem), you can live without your stomach. It is your small intestine which is completely and utterly necessary for food absorption, but with a few eating and dietary changes it is completely possible to live a normal life without your stomach. (Your food would go straight from your oesophagus to your small intestine, so chewing well and eating small amounts would be crucial to prevent feeling nauseous/uncomfortable).
