Will clindamycin treat strep throat?
clindamycin (cleocin) can be used to treat strep throat, but it's not the recommended treatment. strep throat is caused by streptococcus pyogenes. recommended treatment is with penicillin for 10 days. alternatives include amoxicillin; penicillin allergic patients can use azithro/clarithro/erythro-mycin. there is some evidence showing cleocin works, but it's not first choice
What is the best treatment for strep throat?
The best treatment for streptococcal pharyngitis, commonly called "strep throat" is Bicillin (an injection of penicillin) and Decadron (an injectable steroid). The bacterium responsible for this illness, Streptococcus pyogenes, has not demonstrated significant resistance to penicillin, so this treatment continues to the first-line choice for the moment. A recent study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine indicated that the common practice of also giving a single injected dose of dexamethasone (Decadron) is also helpful in decreasing the severity and duration of the symptoms of strep throat.
Of course, there are people who are allergic to penicillin, and for those individuals, it is standard practice to give erythromycin instead. For people who are not penicillin-allergic but refuse injections, a 10-day course of penicillin VK is also effective, but is a bit difficult to take correctly, as it requires four doses each day. Due to this difficulty, and the public health implications of failing to treat strep throat completely (it is extremely contagious), I usually strongly recommend the injection.
What happens if you had strep throat but you did not take all antibiotics?
In can develop into scarlet fever.
If not treated properly, you can have serious problems with the heart and kidneys.
Scarlet fever can also be fatal if not treated
Take the antibiotic while you have strep or you are going to end up in the hospital or worse.
BUT- Strep Throat can go away on its own. It is a bacterial infection. But if it is not treated with antibiotics you will be sick longer, and contagious longer which can cause the people around you to have a bigger chance of getting Strep too. So I would recommend going to the hospital or calling your doctor. If your too lazy and don't want to take the antibiotics stay home and make sure not to eat acitic foods such as tomatoes. Drink hot tea with honey. Soups will make it feel better too. And have ice cream and Popsicle. It numbs the swelling.
NOT TREATED: Takes longer time to heal. (7 days). Longer time contagious. And increases the chance of family members from getting Strep.
TREATED (with antibiotics): Heals in about 48 hours. Not contagious anymore after 24 hours of taking the antibiotics. Decreases the risk of family members to getting strep.
REMEMBER LOTS OF SLEEP, LIQUIDS, HOT SOUPS/TEA, POPSICLE ETC. IT WILL GO BY FAST.
How do you treat strep throat?
STREP THROAT is caused by a streptococcal (strep for short) bacterium and is cured by a prescription medication (antibiotic), once a throat culture is done by a doctor and the culture shows "positive" for the bacteria. Even though many people get a prescription for an antibiotic without a positive culture, they really should not be given antibiotics without doing a culture (swab) of the throat. Antibiotics are over-prescibed in this country everyday. Everytime someone is seen for a cough, cold symptom, chest congestion, earache etc...doctors seem to throw antibiotics at their patients. This is not good, because over-use of antibiotics eventually leads to antibiotic resistant strains of infection, where even the strongest antibiotic stops being effective. Antibiotics DO NOT
work on a VIRUS infection; they only work on BACTERIAL infections. <<
Can penicillin get rid of sore throat?
It might if the sore throat is due to an infection by bacteria that are sensitive to penicillin, and most bacteria that cause sore throats are. However, the most common causes of a sore throat are viruses and viral infections are not treated with antibiotics like penicillin, since viruses (e.g., the cold and flu viruses) are not sensitive to or "killed" by antibiotics like bacteria are. You may want to try some of the home remedies given in the related question, or contact your health care professional for evaluation and treatment.
Can strep throat heal on its own?
Yes, but it takes a long, long time and can lead to complications. You could get rheumatic fever and that could also kill you. If it gets in the blood stream (if any bacteria gets there) you will get very sick and possibly die. Strep is very treatable so there is no reason not to get atibiotics.
What type of antibotics treat strep throat?
blue pills i had them before but their prescription so your doctor will give them to you if you have strep throat

How do you help a sore throat?
If you have a sore throat, you should get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. You should consider visiting a doctor, especially if your sore throat worsens, has spots, or continues for days. A humidifier or cold vaporizer can help as well to make the air more moist and soothing.
One of the better home remedies for a sore throat is a salt water gargle. It is very soothing. Be sure that a child is old enough to know how to properly gargle before using this. It should not be swallowed. Try this for the gargle:
1 teaspoon of table salt to 8 ounces of warm water. Gargle the solution and then spit it out. Warm water (but not hot) is more soothing. Do this a couple of times a day.
There are many over the counter products for sore throats, too. Ask the pharmacist at your drug store for recommendations of the best products available for your specific symptoms.
The most common cause of a sore throat is a viral infection, such as a cold or the flu. A sore throat caused by a virus usually resolves on its own with symptomatic care. A bacterial infection is less commonly the cause, but if it is due to bacteria, you will need to see a doctor to determine if you need antibiotics.
According to Otolaryngologists, some indications in adults that you need to see a physician with a sore throat are:
In children, if the sore throat is not gone by the next day, contact your pediatrician for advice. Also get urgent medical care if children have any of the following with the sore throat:

What could red bumps on the back of the tongue be strep throat?
If the bumps are regular and symmetrical IE. the same on both sides, they are most likely a variation of a taste bud- there are different types of taste bud that can be found in different locations- the ones at the back of the mouth are often mistaken by the novice for oral cancer. If you are unsure- visit a dentist :-)
The germs that caused the virus are still in you and reproducing for most of the time you are on antibiotics. The anitbiotics kill them. As they die, they're numbers dwindle, but are still there, so you are still contagious until all the antibiotic is gone and the doctor confirms the virus is gone. It is important to use all the prescribed antibiotic--to be sure to kill off all the germs. If not, some may be left and start reproducing again, thus you'd have to start all over with the antibiotics.
How does your body fight off Strep Throat?
Most of the patients recover with in say three days clinically. This happens due to immune response of the body. But many becomes carrier of the strep throat causing bacteria. So the patient must get ten day course of tab penicillin or azithromycin or one of the other member of the macrolide group of antibiotic. Like roxithromycin, clarithromycin or erythromycin for ten days.
