Suboxone

Suboxone is a detox or maintenance medicine for people addicted to opiates. Questions should pertain to suboxone, or subutex, which is the same medicine without the opiate blocker.

970 Questions

Does Suboxone help cover up opiates on a drug screen?

Absolutely the contrary will take place in that Suboxone will completely displace the opiates out of your system within one day. This stuff is a miracle drug for those serious about beating their demons with opiates as there will be zero withdrawls on day one.

Can you overdose on heroin while taking suboxone?

by no means, it's a safer detox medication to get off heroin (any opiates*). I take it. saved my life.

so your answer is not at all. do not use it to get high. It is for detox for people who really need it. schedule 3 drug a maintenance medication. but it does give me a fake buzz to stop my heroin cravings. it is a miracle to me. I'm not a doctor but this is my experience.

to keep me from using. all abused drugs are bad especially in that category. both are highly addictive. be safe get help if your using dope or addicted as it almost stole my life two nights ago. its really a cliche to say either is better or worse. do some more outside research on this med to understand it better, I think you have a different perception of what this med is actually used for.

How long will you test positive for suboxone?

Well, Suboxone does not get you "high." The effects of Suboxone last up to about 36 hours. If you just take it out of the blue you won't get high but you will be in a little bit better of a mood and will notice you have a lot more energy. You should never take any drugs for recreational purposes. Suboxone is also very addictive itself and has very serious withdrawal if you suddenly stop taking it after prolonged use. well i am a methadone addict i don't just use recreationally. i am trying to quit. I disagree....Suboxone got me very high. And it lasted a LONG time. I remember going to a wedding, I took the Suboxone in the afternoon and was still high at midnight. The above post is right, it is addictive and the withdrawals suck. Well, you do feel a little something with suboxone, I pesonally would not categorize it has feeling high , cause if you have ever shot up heroin then you can't really say that suboxone gets you high. It certainly makes you feel better. But if you just take it out of the blue you will a slight buzz but nothing to write home about.

Can you take amphetamines on top of Suboxone?

Yes. Suboxone is an opiate, a downer, and amphetamines (aka speed) are an upper. So the speed will get rid of the sleepiness that Suboxone causes, and the Suboxone will get rid of the jittery feeling the speed causes. However, taking both downers and uppers at the same time is bad for your heart, so be very careful not to take too much of either drug.

Can you take ultram with suboxone?

I tried to take Ultram after I was dosed down off of Suboxone. The Ultram had absolutely no effect for about a month after my I took the last Suboxone (I was persistent!). I think it's the naloxone in the Suboxone that blocks you from getting pain relief, or a high feeling. Also, once I finally began to feel some effect from the Ultram, it was alot duller and less effective than when I was taking it prior to Suboxone treatment.

When can you take pain pills again after taking suboxone 2 days prior?

Depending on amount of "suboxone" u were on and for how long, drug history prior to subox use, and how long u been off. I was a heavy opiate user and have been on a significant subox dose for 2yrs-i am hoping that pain meds evolve by the time i need becuz I know I wont have anything to cover me-u might just try ibuprofen....sorry. PS-I am a nurse.

How long do you wait after taking Darvocet to take suboxone?

I took two Darvocets this morning (about 8:00 a.m.) then took my regular 8 mg Suboxone about 2:00 p.m. and feel great. I've been on 16 mg Sub (one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.) a day now almost three years. There is not enough Naloxone in the 8 mg tablets to make you sick unless you crush/inject it. It's only then that the Naloxone is activated. So, I'd say within four-six hours or so after taking an opiate, you're good to go with the Sub as long as you take it as directed (sublingually, no injecting).

How long before you can take Vicodin after taking 2Mg suboxone?

24-48 hours minimally. 72+ hours is ideal for full effect, even with a dose as low as 2 mg. Due to the nature of buprenorphine's (suboxone's active ingrediant) long half life, consecutive doses over a few days will take even longer to clear the system.

Can Rolfing cause side effects?

There are no reported serious side effects associated with Rolfing when delivered by a certified practitioner to adults and juveniles.

What could cause a drug test to be positive for Dilaudid?

Not a 100% sure but the only thing I did differently than normal, and the messed up part is that they are prescribed that way is that I took 2 at one time. But I am on Oxy

30 IR every 4 to 6 as needed and 2 60 Morphine ER every 12hr and apparently I tested positive for dilaudid.

My Dr sent me a letter saying I tested positive and that he would not take care of me anymore and that I should ween my way off of the pain pills, like the pain has gone away? I so would get off of these things if I could but the pain is so intense that without the pills I don't want to live. So what the hell am I suppose to do? Blah Blah Blah... I hope this answers your question.

I believe that the morphine was the problem because I normally take 1 every 6 hrs.

Can you take focalin and suboxone together?

I am on 20mg/day Suboxone and have been prescribed 8mg Zanaflex/day and haven't had any sort of bad reaction to the combo. I've taken my Zanaflex at the same time as the Sub and still all has been fine. Just a word of warning, Tizanidine (Zanaflex) is really harsh on the liver and you should be careful if taking it long term.

Can you dissolve buprenorphine?

Yes but the naloxone in the medicine has a very similar solubility and molecular weight so it will disolve to with buprenorphine. Naloxone as you know is narcane, a medicine which is not orally active but injected will have quite the opposite effect of an opiate.

Will suboxone block out amphetamines?

no way, in my opinion it makes them better.

What will happen if you mix suboxone and Darvocet?

They will not mix.The suboxone will block the opiate(hydrocodone,Oxycodone, codeine, etc) and if you have been on the opiate long term the suboxone will cause precipitated withdrawal.ONLY take suboxone after 24 hours opiate free and if your ready to get off opiates

Does suboxone cause small pupils?

Yes it does all opiates cause myosis (small pupils) as long as you hit a certain point of mgs your pupils will go into myosis. some like Oxycontin make your pupils smaller but they grow alot faster than heroin or morphine. heroin and morphine will keep your pupils smaller for almsot 36 hours. dilaudid oxy vics all will only make your pupils smaller for like 10-12 hours and even less.

What are the side effects associated with using eucommia bark?

You take suboxone but you need something anxiety?

Yes this is a common side effect of suboxone. I struggled with taking xanax with suboxone for awhile which is very dangerous to do, but I cut my dose of suboxone back to only 8mg a day, and that really seemed to help. I still get anxiety daily, and ALWAYS want xanax but have been able to not take any. I am taking an anti-depresiant type drug called Sevalla now and it helps alot with the anxiety. My suboxone Dr. recommended it to me because of my anxiety. Maybe ask your doc about paxil or some type of non-narcotic anti-anxiety or anti-depresant. I hate to say but if you did real dope for a long period of time and are now on suboxone, that anxiety feeling is there to stay, there's nothing you can really do to make it go away completely except taking benzos, and believe me you do not want to go down that road, cause it only leads you back to the addictive personality that lead you to suboxone in the first place. Email me at jasondavidrice@wikianswers.com if you have anymore questions or need to talk to someone, I am glad to help. That's why I am on wiki so much cause it keeps me busy and helps with my anxiety! Good luck!

How long will it take for you to be clean off of methadone if you took forty mg?

I was on 110 mgs methadone for over 14 years. I was in rehab to come down 10 mgs per week. I went from 110 to 80 1st then after reaching 60mgs. I chose to stop cold. NEVER try this. Go slow & wait. at least 6 weeks before taking suboxene. You MUST. be in FULL withdrawal before starting suboxene.

Is it possible to get a buzz off pain pills if you took a suboxone?

No, it is IMPOSSIBLE. No doctor will give you opiate pain meds if you are on Suboxone (or have been on it), regardless of how badly you are injured, or how much pain you are in.

Unfortunately, there are (to my knowledge) no effective non-opiate pain relievers for short term severe pain. There are some for long term severe pain (as opiates do not work long term). But there aren't really any effective, non-opiate pain relievers for short term severe pain (such as the kind that follows a serious injury or operation).

If you are badly injured or having a painful operation/procedure, do NOT tell the doctors you take (or have taken) Suboxone. That is absolutely the LAST thing you should EVER tell them. They will send you home with NOTHING. They'll just tell you to take Advil or naproxen, which is a joke. These are NSAID pain relievers, which are useless for severe pain. You will be in agonizing pain, and your doctors won't care. They don't wanna hear about it. They just care about their liability.

They may also tell you that "your Suboxone already works as a pain reliever." This is sort of true, but not really. Not for an opiate addict who takes Suboxone regularly. It may provide a bit of relief, but not much.

Trust me. I have been on Suboxone for 8 years. Eventually I wised up and stopped telling the doctors, because I got tired of screaming and crying in pain after injuries and operations. I also learned how to successfully transition from Suboxone to pain meds and back again.

If anything, tell them you are allergic to naltrexone. That is what they'd give you if they gave you too much morphine in the hospital and you stopped breathing. You'd be in agony if they gave you naltrexone while you're on Suboxone.

If this is an injury or illness that you've received prior treatment for, and they ask something along the lines of, "The previous doctor didn't give you any pain meds?" just shrug and say they told you to just take Advil. You have no idea why. Also, if they ask if you've ever been prescribed Vicodin or Percocet (or whatever they're planning on giving you) before, the answer is, "yes."

Once you are prescribed the Vicodin or Percocet or whatever, you will have to replace the Suboxone with it. The Suboxone will block the effects of the pain reliever, so you can't take both. It may take 3 days to fully feel the effects of the pain meds, as that is how long Suboxone stays in your system.

You probably won't feel any pain relief at all until about 36 hours after your last Suboxone dose (when the withdrawal starts to kick in), so wait until you are feeling withdrawal from the Suboxone before you start taking the pain meds. It doesn't have to be full-blown, severe withdrawal, just the beginning stages.

This will be tough, but you have no choice. You have to suffer through those 36 hours. Taking the pain meds less than 36 hours after your last Suboxone dose will have virtually no effect, so it's just a waste of medicine. And you will need that medicine later on.

Here's why: since you already have an opiate tolerance, the pain meds will not be as effective for you as they would be for a non-opiate addict. You may have to take twice the prescribed dose to get the same effect a normal person would, which means you could easily go through a 30-day script in 10 to 14 days.

So be very stingy with yourself; take as few pills as you possibly can. No doctor on earth will refill your 30-day opiate script after just 2 weeks (or even 3 weeks). Don't even bother trying. The doctor will just think you're abusing the meds, and unfortunately, you cannot tell him/her the real reason you're going through the pills so fast.

However, even though Suboxone blocks the pain reliever's effects, you may still need to give yourself a tiny dose of Suboxone every day or every other day. Why? Because the effects of Suboxone last so much longer than other opiates (such as morphine, heroin, Percocet, Vicodin, etc.). You don't start feeling withdrawal from Suboxone for about 36 hours. With other opiates, you start feeling withdrawal in 4 to 6 hours.

So, to prevent withdrawal, you'd have to take a dose of your pain meds every 4 to 6 hours, whether you're in pain or not. You'll go through the meds SO fast this way. But if you take just a LITTLE bit of Suboxone, you won't have to take the pain meds as often, as the little bit of Suboxone will be just enough to keep you out of withdrawal.

Take just a teeny, tiny bit, just a fraction of your regular prescribed dose. For example, if you normally take 8mgs of Suboxone every 24 hours, cut it to 2mgs every 36 to 48 hours.

Once you are done with the pain meds, wait a minimum of 16 hours before starting your full dose of Suboxone again.

I just want to add that it is generally not a good idea to lie to your doctors. However, in this specific instance, you really have no choice. There is simply no other recourse for a Suboxone patient who gets injured or needs a painful operation. They will not prescribe you opiate pain meds, and no comparable non-opiate pain reliever exists. Unless you want to spend the next few weeks/months screaming, crying, and praying to God to just kill you...DON'T TELL THEM ABOUT THE SUBOXONE.

Will a drug test show suboxone and Klonopin if I have not taken any in 5 to 10 days?

not sure of the half life on suboxone or wheather it is a chemical compound that would come up on most drug screens but if you took the klonopin fairly regularly (and not just once) it will definitely show up on a drug screen. Benzos like clonazepam stay in your system a long time especially if you have taken them consistently for a while

Can suboxone show up in drug test for newborns?

You have got to be kidding me...what kind of question is this? I am an addicts as well but i still know enough to realize how messed up you are if ur worried about suboxone being in ur NEWBORNS system....SAD SAD SAD, i feel terrible for that child if your on suboxone KNOW ENOUGH and understand you cant take it while pregnant......Babys are innocent you make their choices, LETS BE SMARTER

What the person above this was trying to say is, as addicts we do things that we are not always proud of, and we should NEVER judge another person for what they have done in their lives, addiction is a disease and is uncontrollable. The answer to your question is, unless they run the special test that they use for Suboxone, then no, it will not show up in a drug test that is given to you, or your child, but please, for the sake of your life, and your child, please, get help, drugs are not the way, there is an amazing life to be lived clean and sober, I have been sober many years now and my life is so much better than it ever was when I was using. There are people out there willing to help, AA/NA is an amazing group of fellow addicts and alchoholics that will not judge you, as the person that wrote the previous answer did, but they will welcome you warmly and listen to you, understand you, and do all they can to help you to remain clean and sober.

"God take my will and my life, guide me in my recovery, and show me how to live. Amen."

I am pregnant and have started taking suboxone cause I don't want them to take my child from me when I go into labor which I am due in only five days. Seriously, hypocrites that take the damn Oxycontin sont know what its like to get pregnant and be sick EVERYDAY.. Who wants to withdrawl while pregnant? And then WHO KNOWS what you had to go through? Guess well be finding out what suboxone shows up as if anything in a few days.. If I go into labor. Quitting better late than never.. and I hear that Oxycontin has no real affects on a fetus except for they might have withdrawls when born which is TERRIBLE and the reaosn I am trying to withdrawl myself, NOW. SO Forget that first persons answer.

Does methadone or suboxone have an effect on your kidneys?

Both of these medications have a potential to cause kidney issues. You should check with your doctor if you have concerns, and definitely let them know if you have already been diagnosed with kidney disease.
