Why do my fingers and toes feel stiff when I don't move them?

Stiffness in your fingers and toes when not in use can be caused by several factors, including reduced blood circulation, muscle fatigue, or joint stiffness. Prolonged immobility can lead to a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles, contributing to discomfort. Additionally, conditions like arthritis or nerve compression could also lead to a sensation of stiffness. Regular movement and stretching can help alleviate this feeling.

Can a cold draft give you muscle pain?

Absolutely! In fact, I'm suffering from it now. I thought I had a broken rib because the pain was so intense that even taking a deep breath, would cause extreme pain. Even bumps on the road when driving, where causing me to hold my breath to keep down the pain. After 2 days of this pain, I went to see my chiropractor. He did his adjustment, but I got no relief. I was massaged before the adjustment, but it was not done on the sore spot, which is on the right side in the rib area. They massaged my back so that was fruitless. The next day, I was no better. In fact, I felt worst. And that's when it dawned on me, it might have been caused by a draft. My computer is near a window, on the right side of my body. Being a Senior, I'm not as active as I was so the muscles, have become weak and susceptible to drafts. That day, was blustery and cold. Since my windows are drafty, the cold wind attacked the side muscles of my ribs. And then I realized what the real cause was. I'm also Mexican and the cure is SUPER EASY but ONLY if you have a 2nd person to help you! Being single and living alone, I have no help. The pain can be solved by gently patting, the muscles around the rib area with someone's hand. It's the same patting you use when burping a baby to get the gas out of it's tummy. It works wonderfully for drafts in backs. My Mexican mother taught us this when we were small. And when you have a stiff neck from a draft, take a towel and warm it up in the microwave then gently roll the towel from side to side on the neck. Don't give yourself a friction burn. Gently rub the towel back and forth while gently moving your head to ease the pain. After a couple of session, you notice relief right away.

What could cause a tight burning pain in my upper right arm that extends down to my fingers?

First of all: I'm not a doctor, but was suffering from continuous pains in shoulder, fixed it all myself by reading literature and consulting with real doctors. Be warned.

Possible causes that I think of are: a trauma, a strained muscle, a posture deficiency, and a myofascial trigger point. Or all four together. You probably should visit an orthopaedist first, to check out if you have any posture deficiency, no matter whether it is caused by trauma or not. If you do, then you'll probably be prescribed some corrective treatment, a series of exercises and stretches. It is usually because of posture deficiencies (a short leg, scoliosis, kyphosis etc) one group of muscles is overloaded, and another is overstrained. The latter causes continuous pain. If that is your case, then first identifying, and then stretching the group that is overloaded, and also exercising the weak, overstrained muscles should help immediately within 1-3 days. However, don't do that without consulting a doctor first.

"The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" by C.Davies Good answer by the first person, I would only add that referred pain can be the result of neurological or vascular injury as well, and should be evaluated by a doctor before undertaking any self-help regimen, as these can result in permanent injury. Some of the things done to relieve muscle strain can aggravate these conditions, so you should have a more definitive diagnosis before undertaking them.

Does swelling hurt?

Inflammation is a response from your immune system in response to an irritant. For example, if you sprain your ankle, your immune system creates a protein called a Circulating Immune Complex (CIC for short). The CIC travels down to the injured ankle and causes pain and swelling.

The pain you feel is to inform you of the injury or damage. And the swelling is protective as it prevents you from moving it and causing more irritation. This is also your body's way of running to the problem with fresh blood, antibodies and vital cells in order to begin healing and repairing the damage.
