When do you know you have to have surgery to remove appendix?
Pain in your side not related to exercise. "Rebound" pain, that is, if you press on your side then suddenly release it, there is a sharp pain. Fever not associated with flu. If in doubt, go to the ER. Some places take out the appendix endoscopically without leaving a scar.
Severe pain in your right illiac fossa (that's in between you right hip bone and bottom rib bone) some times you can have diahorrea and vomiting, and you will almost always have a loss of appetite. The pain tends to be worse on movement, or if someone touches the precise area.
If in doubt go to the hospital!!
I'm guessing you mean the symptoms of appendicitis? The first symptom is general stomach aches. This can be followed by loss of appetite, and vomiting. The pain will eventually localize, and be felt most between the naval and the right hip bone. All symptoms are generally accompanied by fever.
If used properly, steroids can help the body heal from inflammation - they are very good for conditions such as arthritis and asthma, which are aggravated by swelling.
If used improperly, such as in an attempt to "bulk up," steroids can cause irreversible damage to the body, because in illegal use a proper dose is not used. Using too many steroids does damage the body.
What type of eyeglasses will a patient need after cataract surgery?
A replacement lens is usually inserted at the time of the surgery.
How many types of cataract surgery are there?
There are two types of this procedure – with or without breast augmentation.
Breast Lift with Augmentation – In this procedure, the cosmetic surgeon not only removes excess skin and fat but also inserts implants into breasts for giving them an attractive and perkier appearance. It is done in two ways. One is a fat transfer from other areas, the other is implants. You can choose between saline implants of several generations and silicone implants that include the latest generation ones. However, there are no significant differences between these implants. Thus, it becomes a matter of your choice and the experience of your surgeon.
Breast Lift Without Placement of Implants – In this cosmetic surgery procedure, the surgeon focuses on decreasing the breast size and improving the breast shape to give them a refreshing and youthful look. Making use of techniques such as lollipop incision, anchor-shaped incision or doughnut incision, a well-trained and experienced surgeon would remove the excess breast tissue and skin moving the nipples in an upward position. In this surgery, no implant is used.
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia. To put it simply – you will be sleeping throughout the surgery. In some cases, a surgeon might use local anesthesia in combination with a sedative. You will be awake during the procedure but relaxed.
The Procedure
The entire procedure lasts for two to three hours. Though techniques vary, the most common method involves an incision around the areola. The doctor creates a vertical incision marking the area from which excess breast skin and fat have to be removed and a new location where nipples will be moved. After removing the excess fat and skin, the doctor will move the areola and nipple to a higher position. The skin around the areola is pulled down for reshaping the breast. Breast tissues are also rearranged for improving breast projection. Stitches are placed around the areola, along the lower breast crease, and in a vertical line that goes down from the nipple area. If implants have to be inserted, they will be laced along with the breast lift surgery. They will be inserted in a pocket below the chest wall’s muscle or under the breast tissue.
The Gamma Knife is form of stereotactic radiosurgery used to treat brain disorder such as brain tumor and vascular malformations, without the need for open surgery. Although it was named Gamma Knife, it uses gamma rays instead of surgical knife.
The Gamma Knife is the "Gold standard of radiosurgery. Computer planned finely collimated gamma-rays are precisely onto and intracranial target to ablate it, without the need for open surgery. It can also be an alternative or adjunct to conventional open surgery.
The Gamma Knife is a treatment unit designed to deliver a highly conformal dose of radiation thearpy to intracranial sites using 201 convergent beams emanating from cobalt-60 radiations sources. The Gamma Knife was invented by Prof. Leksell and Larson and the first clinical work was done in 1967 at the karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Since that times, tens of thousands of patients have treated with Gamma Knife radiosurgery and significant research has been done on the safe and effective application of stereotactic radiosugery for the treatment of several intracranial conditions

What kind of specialist deals with the integumentary system?
Dermatologists are skin care doctors who have expertise in the care of normal skin, and in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. Hair, skin and nails all develop from the same primary tissues and are studied together because of this fact.
In addition, dermatologists are knowledgeable in the management of cosmetic disorders of the skin (such as hair loss and scars).

Can you bleed to death by piercing the vein in your tongue?
I guess so, if you don't stop the bleeding. Eventually, though, it may take days, even weeks, you will loose a lot of blood. That is, if the cut doesn't dry up. Maybe not, but don't think about trying it.....
What risks does eye muscle surgery involve?
Eye muscle surgery is relatively safe, but very rarely a cut muscle gets lost and can not be retrieved. This, and other serious reactions, including those caused by anesthetics, can result in vision loss in the affected eye. Occasionally.

What is the recovery time for pectus excavatum repair?
It probably depends on whether you get the Nuss operation (which includes putting a bar in the chest and having it removed several years later) or the Ravitch operation. I had the Ravitch operation so I can only really speak to that one. The average hospital stay is 3-5 days, then two weeks before most can go back to school/work. Physical exertion is limited for 2-3 months. Chest numbness can last for several months or, in some cases, feeling may never return at all.
Is it safe to fly with a hernia?
That would depend on the severity of the hernia.

How long does it take to recover from liposuction surgery?
Because liposuction is not a major surgery, the recovery is a lot easier to withstand than most other surgeries. However, there are guidelines that need to be followed to ensure the patients safety as well as a positive outcome.
Most procedures use a local anesthetic, which does not require a prolonged stay in the surgeons office. Patients are required to have someone else available to drive them home and encouraged to have someone at home with them for the first 24 hours. Allow 18 hours after the procedure before driving or operating heavy machinery.
After the liposuction procedure, a compression garment will be put on. This garment is intended to encourage accurate drainage of incisions. The garment will need to be worn 24 hours a day for 3 to 6 days. Along with the compression garment, absorbent pads need to be worn to soak up blood and remaining anesthetic fluids. These pads need to be worn for 24 hours after all drainage has stopped. The compression garment needs to be removed once daily to enable the patient to shower, wash the garment, and change the pads.
It is recommended that you rest quietly for the first few hours after your procedure. You may opt for a walk a few hours afterwards. Normal physical activity can resume the following day, but you should wait 2 to 4 days before engaging in strenuous physical activity.
It is important to keep the incisions clean. Do not, however, soak in a tub, or go in a pool or the ocean for at least 7 days. If you experience severe itching, you may use Benadryl (following the instructions) or you may soak in an oatmeal bath, provided it is at least 7 days after the procedure.
Take all of the antibiotics prescribed to you. Extra strength Tylenol can be taken every four to six hours, but avoid aspirin and ibuprofen. If pain increases dramatically after 5 to 10 days, notify your surgeon. This could possibly be due to an infection.
Bruising, swelling, nausea, menstrual irregularities and temperature elevation are all normal occurrences immediately following liposuction and should subside.
Patients can usually plan on returning to work within a few days of the procedure, but should also expect to be uncomfortable and weary for several days afterward.
AnswerLiposuction is an easy procedure. I would not advise to go back to normal activity for at least 5 days. People will tell you different. But the longer you can stay down.... the less bruising you will have. I didn't bruise until I went back to being on my feet for 6 hours a day. And I went back to work after 6 days. I had bruising... but it was minimal. The insicions do not seep like most people say. I had one gauze put on that was suppose to stay on till my 2 week post-op appointment. So ask your surgeon about these... it will save from having to change the gauze. I DO ADVISE TO WEAR YOUR COMPRESSION GARMENT. It is VERY uncomfortable. But it must be worn. I didn't wear mine and I swelled up really bad when I didn't have it on. I went back to wearing it and the swelling went down and so didn't the bruising. So be ready for it to be tight and VERY uncomfortable. But it is worth it in the long run to suffer:) Don't be so scared about the complications. If you read those closely you'll see the statistics. ANd I am usually the "worst case senerio". I had a pleasant experience from Liposuction and I would do it over again.Additionally, you should expect to have to wear compression bandages, or a compression suit for about a month after surgery. Most patients don't like wearing the suit, but it's necessary in order to compress the areas of treatment. In essence, holes were created by the liposuction surgery, and they need to be held together so your body can heal into its new contours better. In some cases, drains are used temporarily, just beneath the skin, in order to drain any excess fluid or blood. The drains can be uncomfortable, but if used, are essential to the healing process.
Why NPO before and after surgery in appendectomy?
A patient is placed on NPO status before surgery to prepare the gastrointestinal tract. Your stomach and esophagus (food tube) relaxes when general anesthesia is administered which makes it possible for food to move up into your mouth from where a patient may aspirate it down their trachea (wind pipe) into their lungs. Such aspirate is usually very acidic (pH around 1-3) and can cause sever damage to the lungs requiring artificial ventilation and hospitalization. By placing a patient on NPO status, there will be nothing to aspirate because any food would have been absorbed into the small intestines by that time of surgery 6-8 hrs later.
What is the medical term meaning surgical puncture of a joint?
Arthrocentesis is the surgical puncture of a joint space to remove synovial fluid.
Basically put a needle in the joint, and then aspirate the fluid. This is usually a diagnostic and not a therapeutic procedure. The fluid is then sent for investigation. It can be a therapeutic procedure, though it won't cure, but it may relieve pain (for example with arthritis).
As infection in a joint is to be avoided at all costs, this should be done under the most aseptic circumstances possible.
arthrocentesis
Arthrocentesis (arthr = joint + centesis = puncture) is procedure where a syringe is used to collect synovial fluid from the joint capsule for examination. It is also known as joint aspiration. The procedure is used to diagnose gout, arthritis and synovial infections.

What are the risks of laparoscopic surgery?
Mini-laparotomy results in a higher incidence of pain, bleeding, bladder injury, and infection compared with laparoscopy. Patients normally feel better after three or four days of rest, and are able to resume sexual activity at that time.
