Susan Boyle is the 47-year-old woman who caused a huge sensation in April 2009 in the competition "Britain's Got Talent."

Some might say that Susan Boyle is a male-looking person who is a crap singer, but obviously those people have not really listened to her... or seen her lately. Susan Boyle was born in a small village in Scotland on April 1, 1961. During birth, she was deprived of oxygen for a short time, which caused some learning disabilities. She was often picked on at school and began singing at the age of 12. As an adult, she spent much of her time caring for her mother and volunteering at a local church. After her mother died, she went through a period of depression and stayed mainly to herself, but she had a dream that she never let go. That dream was to become a professional singer. She appeared on Britain's Got Talent not only because she wanted to fulfill that dream, but because her mother encouraged her to when she was alive. After signing "I Dreamed a Dream" for her audition, a video of her performance was put on YouTube, where it was viewed millions of times, making Susan a well-known figure and celebrity. While her performances on BGT resulted in her being the runner-up to the dance group, Diversity, she will, indeed, realize her dream! She is expected to release a CD and possibly do concerts at which her already loyal fans will hear her "in person." She also has a cat named 'Pebbles'!!

When Susan Boyle found out that she came second, she was at backstage of Britain's Got Talent when she suddenly started acting eratically, and then security had to get her out and tell her to go to her hotel. When she got to the hotel, she started smashing things around her, then the police had to get involved and they sent for a man who examined her and she is now in a clinic. In my opinion I do feel sorry for her because she had every one laughing at her at the beginning when she stood on that black empty stage. I am very sorry if any offence is taken by this information After the announcement of Diversity winning, Susan was very gracious on stage, but apparently, from all the accounts that I've read, shouted "I hate this show" and threw a glass of water on a crew member that tried to calm her after she was backstage. Later, at the hotel, her behavior was such that it became a concern and authorities were called to examine her. Though reports vary, Susan apparently was talking to herself, asked to talk to Pebbles (her cat) on the phone, and was acting erratically. Some reports say that she fainted in her hotel room. She was taken to Priority Clinic, where she checked herself in and stayed for a few days. Apparently, she was exhausted and emotionally drained, and suffered what Americans would call and "anxiety attack." She has since joined the BGT tour and appears to be fine.

The song "I Dreamed a Dream" (from the Tony Award-winning musical Les Miserables) that was sung by Susan Boyle was originally performed on Broadway by Randy Graff as the character of Fantine.

She said she wants to be as successful as Elaine Paige in response a question asked by Simon Cowell in her first audition on Britain's Got Talent. She did not say she wants to sound like her.

After each contestant completes their performance on the day of the finals, a phone number is given on the screen to call in and vote for that performer. No calls are accepted until after the final act, at which time the lines are opened for a period of time in order for people to call the phone number for the performer that they liked the best. Each call counts as one vote. Only those who live in Britain are allowed to vote and you simply would have needed to call the number given for Susan to have voted for her.
