I would imagine that Portia acts to Peeta as Cinna does to Katniss. She is probably someone who seems to understand everything you tell her and she is seen to get very emotional. She supports Katniss just is Cinna does and seems to go hand in hand with him and be a great help during the games. She also has and eye for style and knows what works best for an individual. She is her own person, and just as Cinna is, she isn' t emotionally ruled by those in charge of her.

Assuming it represents our future (vs an alternate history Earth), we're talking at least the year 2100, since the Hunger Games are being held for the 75th time, and early on in the book, it suggests war/cataclysm and a period of rebuilding.

It never says the true thing that destroyed the North American countries (The United States and Canada), but it was surely something unbearable.

The denouement of the Hunger Games is that Peeta and Katniss have won the 74th Hunger Games, and they get to go back to their home in District 12.

The end fate thing is:

First of all, you should read the books. But here's the answer:

After reaping training starts. Katniss scores 11 out of 12. Peeta scores 8 out of 12. When the games start 13 tributes die at the begging. Then, Katniss is dieing of thirst. She finds water eventually. She finds Peeta with careers. She cuts down a tracker jacker hive Rue pointed out. Some careers quickly run. While others pick up supplies then run. Glimmer and another girl die from stings. Katniss had gotten 3 stings. Peeta tells her Cato's coming, and she runs away. Later, after she passes out, she awakes to find Rue giving her medicine. They create a plan to destroy career's food. After Katniss does that, she goes to where she was suppose to meet Rue. Marvel kills Rue then Katniss kills Marvel. Katniss sings Rue a song. Then, game makers change rules. Katniss finds Peeta. Then she goes to feast. She uses medicine. Peeta collects night lock, poisonous berries, then foxface eats them and dies. Then, Thresh dies from Cato. Peeta and Katniss go to cornucopia. Cato comes running with mutts chasing him. He climbs up cornucopia and puts Peeta in a choke hold. If katniss shoots Cato down Peeta will fall and die with him. Then peeta draws an x in cato's hand and katniss shoots him there, making him realise peeta and fall to his death. Then peeta and katniss win the hunger games.

Katniss finds water on the third day in the arena.

Because the districts start rebelling due to katniss defying the games in the first book by making a suicide pact with peeta so that they could either die together or live together if two victors were allowed. This was the start of an uprising that swept across the districts and the Capitol blew up district 12 to show that they are still in charge and can not be defeated.And beacose Katniss broke the barier and provail the games and the winners start to make a bunt to the capitol into the games and from that kinde ot do is destroyed district 12 beacoase the capital wanna show that nothing can stop them

Well, it tells about Katniss' life and where comes from. It tells about how her land is poor and they aren't allowed to hunt. It also tells about Prim and how her father died. It tells how she doesn't want kids (which comes to meaning at the end of Mockingjay) and tells how she tries to be quiet and not noticed and how she doesn't get attention. It also explains why there are hunger games, its meaning and about the dark days. If you don't know what those are just read the book

Katniss isn't allowed to hunt in the forests outside of her district because the Captiol don't want the other districts to socialize and talk to each other as this is how a rebellion starts. By putting up electric fences they can keep people in their districts, keep control and fear.

To add on that ^ here are some examples:

In the beginning of the book Katsa is viewed as her uncle's killing machine, so everyone is pretty terrorized at the thought of her. Another example in Katsa's point of view is that she said that her Grace was killing before she even ventured to see what else she could do ( and she found out when she was with Po that her Grace was surviving. )

The second example in the book is about the King of Monsea. In the beginning Katsa, Po, and the gang all thought that Leck was a kind hearted man who had a love for animals. Turns out that that eyepatch he wore covered up for his Grace of being able to manipulate people and he did that to pretend he was all sweet and kind. Leck ended up fooling all the 7 kingdoms for a long time until Po came up with the very thought of his Grace.

She saw a dandelion. Dandelion's symbolize survival to the people of Panem because they are the first flower of spring and they are eaten in times of extreme hunger.
