Because the first film's makers said on the commentary track of the DVD in 2003 that the cub in the end of the movie is not Kopa but called "Fluffy" and it has no gender. And thus, as the only official sequel - the Simba's Pride movie - introduces Kiara and uses the genderless "Fluffy" for baby Kiara in the official trailer, the genderless "Fluffy" and the girl Kiara blend into one. Resulting in Nala and Simba's first and only child being the daughter Kiara.

The third Lion King film was titled The Lion King 1½ also known as The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata in countries outside the United States and Canada.
