The tale is quite different than the Disney cartoon. it is more or less a morality tale against Miscegeneation- again with Parental defiance the Mermaid goes to the sea witch ( a more or less friendly character in the story- not the movie) and she does get her ground legs- she also loses- first her voice and eventually her life- for making love to a Non-Atlantean-- she dissolves into the water- well ahead of schedule- in the tale I seem to recall ( this was omitted in Disney version) Mermaids live for a maximum span of 300 years ( three times the human max)- and then effevesce or dissolve into the ocean form- so there are no Mermaid bodies washing ashore- fossils, etc- this is a neat science fiction touch to explain the lack of Mermaid bodies or fossils!

The Little Mermaid was first released on VHS in the year 1990. This was one year after the movie came out in theaters.

The fictional character, lilke the way this lends realism to fairy tales, had to be at least in his mid-twenties as he was lieutenant in the Danish Royal Navy as evidenced by campaign stripes. So he was a young man. His last name may have been- Rosenthal. It figures, today is Palisadean Day- the traditional opening day.

Can"t recall any Squaliformes ( Sharks and shark-like fish) in this opus, Squalid, is ultimately derived from Shark, as is Shirk (Avoid work) and such things combining the two as in Loan Shark. I am the Loan $hark. pay up...

My guess, as this seems to be the Royal House that the Danes have or had- after Marrying Prince Eric- she would Be HRH Princess Ariel Von Rosenthal- and that is not hot air ( late Blimp admiral please forgive me!)

The Brother's Grimm did not write 'The Little Mermaid'. Hans Christian Anderson wrote 'The Little Mermaid.'

In fact the Brother's Grimm didn't write. They merely complied an anthology of fairy tales.

In the original fairy tale, Ariel (Can't recall her original name) dies. Her deal with the sea witch was she could not touch water or she would die. When Eric (Can't recall his original name) marries someone else, the sea witch gives her a knife to kill him and she can return to the sea. She finds she can't bring herself to do it and commits suicide by jumping in the water.

In the Disney movie, Prince Eric stabs Ursula and she dies.

Melody is twelve years old. In the beginning of the movie, when Ariel is searching for Melody, one of the places Ariel looks is the kitchen where Chef Louis says he doesn't know- but that cake is finished with "twelve petite candles". I find her age puzzling though, because that movie came out in 2000. So if you calculate when Ariel was born, you'd get 1988 which is a year before The Little Mermaid was released.

Having been a fan of the original Little Mermaid for years, and having two children who are big fans, our household couldn't wait for the release of this sequel. We weren't let down. I admit I was somewhat apprehensive after the Lion King 2 sequel, which was much more frightening than the original, but as my 2 1/2 year old said after watching this movie "it didn't scare me!", so I was quite relieved. The kids absolutely loved the movie and were glued to the screen. They've watched it twice in the span of about 20 hours now. I buy this DVD movies from the aussie dvd store website.

Yes she was! In the beginning where Shrek and Fiona are on they're honey moon. They are on a beach, kissing. Then a wave rolls up on top of them and when it goes back to sea Ariel, the little mermaid is kissing Shrek. Then Fiona throws her like 20 yrds. out to sea and 2 sharks eat her.

Vanessa is the name of the body that Ursula took shape to. But she's not a princess.

I dont know anymore places you could buy "Little Mermaid" in 2011 anymore... It's an old movie, but I bet you can find it at some movie stores. The special Disneyland movie stores will SURELY sell them still. But watching it on Youtube would save you more money....
