The Once and Future King

Tristram and Iseult, better known as Tristan and Isolde is said to have before even Lancelot and Guinevere. There are lots of different variations to the story, but it is more or less along the lines of this:

Tristan lives with his uncle, King Mark. He is sent to bring Isolde, an Irish princess to his uncle as a wife. On the way back to Cornwall, Tristan and Isolde drank a love potion accidentally (and in some yet, Isolde gave it to Tristan on purpose) and they fell in love. Isolde marries the king, but has an affair with Tristan behind Mark's back. Mark finds out eventually and sentences Tristan to death and Isolde, banishment. Tristan escapes to Brittany and marries Iseult of the White Hands, due to her name and beauty (according to the Once and Future King by T.H. White, Tristan sleeps with her accidentally, thinking she is Iseult, his lover.)

There is a 2006 movie called "Tristan + Isolde", whose plot is somewhat different. In the film, Tristan and Isolde fall in love of their own account when Tristan washes up on Irish shore and Isolde nurses him back to health. Soon, Tristan goes back to England to his guardian, Mark. Meanwhile, The Irish king sets up a tournament for the hand of his daughter, the princess. Mark sends Tristan to play in the tournament on behalf of Mark. Tristan wins and then finds out the princess he had won for his uncle was Isolde. Mark marries Isolde, unaware of her and Tristan's history. Tristan becomes depressed and moody watching Mark being affectionate with Isolde and knowing that she is not his. Then, he and Isolde start to have an affair.

Tristram's stepmother tried to seduce him, but he rejected her advances. She became angry and accused Tristram of raping her, leading to a conflict between him and his father.

King Arthur is a central character in "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White. He is depicted as a noble and just ruler who strives to create a peaceful kingdom of Camelot. Throughout the novel, Arthur faces various challenges and moral dilemmas that test his leadership and ideals. His story is a classic tale of chivalry, love, and the struggle to maintain honor in a world full of conflict.

In "The Once and Future King," the carrion crow symbolizes death and destruction. Tristram's love was Isolde (also spelled as Iseult or Isolde), a character from Arthurian legend. She was often depicted as Tristram's ill-fated love interest in various stories and versions of the legend.

Mordred is a figure from Arthurian legend who is typically portrayed as King Arthur's traitorous nephew and illegitimate son. He is known for being a central figure in the downfall of Camelot, ultimately leading to King Arthur's death in battle.

Claudius becomes king of Denmark in the play "Hamlet" by murdering his brother, King Hamlet, and marrying his widow, Queen Gertrude. This act of regicide allows him to take the throne and solidify his power.

She gave him an identity because he was unknown for the time being as nobody, though there were discussions of him being Lancelot. She recognized him and had him live with her until sir ector and others came to bring him back after a tournament.

Dog Boy is a character in "The Once and Future King" by T.H. White. He is a mute servant boy who is kind to animals and is a skilled hunter. Dog Boy is known for his loyalty and compassion towards others, despite facing challenges due to his inability to speak.

Merlin's owl is named Archimedes.

It's an interpretation of the story of King Arthur. The title comes from the supposed epitaph on Arthur's grave:

What frustrates the wart about the language of the ants is the lack of words. The wart wants to be able to speak and say more.

Balan says, "Mark my words. We shall have a regular king in that young candidate." Meaning that the Wart would someday grow to do something great.

Sir Lancelot.

Lancelot and Galahad were much different. They were both amazing knights able to best most others at anything because of their skills in fighting. However, Galahad proved that he was the better knight by defeating Lancelot on the quest to find the Holy Grail. Galahad was more pious than Lancelot and it was his purity that allowed him to be the best. Lancelot had been considered the best knight but then, because of Lancelot's sinfulness Galahad was able to best him. Galahad also seemed like he was not human to many people because of his great holiness. Lancelot had made mistakes, but eventually had repented; Galahad didn't seem to make any mistakes and was able to reach the holy grail, while Lancelot was only to get a glimpse of it.

In T.H. White's 'The Once and Future King,' there are four separate phases of Camelot that correspond to part of the book. The first part is 'The Sword In The Stone,' and corresponds to Arthur first assuming the throne at Camelot. 'The Queen of Air and Darkness' corresponds to Arthur's development of the Round Table, and method of rule. 'The Ill-Made Knight' introduces Lancelot, his affair with the queen, and the breaking of the Round Table. The final part, 'The Candle In The Wind,' corresponds to Arthur's final days of life. Camelot is near an end, Guinevere and Lancelot are no longer in his life, and he is days before the final meeting with his illegitimate son, Mordred in battle. His concepts of ethics and morality are explored.

The story of Camelot may be based on a bit of fact, but there is no sure evidence that it ever existed. The story changes over time. In some he is raised by Merlin, but others never really tell us. We usually find him as a knight's page as a teen, but that is vague as location.
