The motion picture- with humongous amounts of trick photography, was produced by somewhat oddly, Warner Bros. No Warner cartoon characters appear in the film. The film is broadly based on the book but is much more heavy and ominous. There is a very real Frisson ( roughly chill-thrill) of Twilight Zone amplified by the fact that most of the characters are anonymous . Camera angles are such that adult characters tower over the children like the Lincoln Statue in the Park. ( This may have been intentional, a rear-angle shot of Saint Nick has him appearing to be something like at least 8 feet tall, seated! Oddity of oddities, no major female characters - and they could have easily had girls working in the diner, as this was a long run on the Railroad. - also again odd-ogg why no yuletide songfest! Goodness they had things like this in many yule and similar pictures. No Grok Polar express.

This does add a touch of mystery but If I was a passenger on a long train trip and met a girl, we would strike up conversation and I would ask her name? Somehow this does not transpire. It is not like a crowd scene witnessing an accident on say, Emergency or a crime drama. this sort of all things to all men anonymity device- used oddly enough in The Time Machine- it turns be off.l in RR parlance it drops the Johnson Bar into center position, Neutral, no forward motion is possible!

I know two of the kids names one was billy and another one was names jimmy.. I think that Jimmy Is the loner kid and Billy is the annoying one,, But I could half the totally backwards. If so sorry :P Hope this helps even a little bit.(;

he just wants to know if Santa clause is really real, he didn't believe at the beginning of the movie but then he found a reason and finally started to believe in Christmas. basically. he just wanted to believe in Christmas and when he finally saw Santa, he did.

All except one boy named Bill are nameless in the story line. the conductor, hobo, various RR men function anonymously. Surely people who have never seen each other would converse during a lengthy train trip and they would ask each other"s names, interests, etc. This does not transpire in the film . Also, nobody gets suspicious like the captive ( abducted on a UFO) scientist character in This Island Earth. The abduction angle is a sort of sordid touch.

Children"s book and somewhat unrelated adapted movie by Warner Bros. The movie is much longer and deeper than the book, and has suspense issues. For some odd reason, like some twilight zone character, the abducted boy is never suspicious of his strange surroundings, the trick punched railroad pass tickets, or so on. he is never skeptical, or like another Warner character, wants OUT_ Out- you Know, Get Me the H--- out of here! There are more than vague shines of Mr. Serling, no pun intended on Silver Rod.

There are a number of places offering polar express games. Mostly web based for children. The Playstation 2 had a full featured polar express game back in its day.

They both involve a mixture of Christmas lore with the Railroad background. the movie, which I did not see, has some sinister valve timing. There is something strange going on... not really spooky but far more so than the book. once underway the book is a relatively smooth-running express with no signal or motor trouble, phantom hoboes, or the like. The film has more suspense and action not found in the book. If I remember correctly ( I am more familiar with the book, the abduction angle is far more toned down, and there are no female characters in the story. it"s a he-man world, so to speak. The use of Locomotive #1225 to pull the Express is a clever calendrical pun. I am not a fan of Clausism so I don"t care for films that support this myth. N"uff said.
