What did St Anastasia do?

Anastasia was born in the city of Rome in the year 275 A.D., to a pagan father whose name was Bristanos and a Christian mother whose name was Flafia. Her mother baptized her secretly without her father's knowledge, and also brought her up in the teachings of the Christian faith. She was steadfast in her faith and no one was able to dissuade her.

When she was at the age of marriage, her father gave her away to a pagan youth, against her wishes. St. Anastasia prayed to the Lord Christ with fervent supplications, asking Him to separate her from this pagan youth who was away from the faith.

When her husband went to work, she used to visit those who were imprisoned for their faith. She ministered to them, comforted them, and offered them whatever they needed. When her husband learned about this, he kept her at home, placing guards over her. She continued to pray and ask God with tears and supplications to save her from the hands of her husband. A short time later, her husband died.

She distributed her wealth among the poor and those who were in prison, the confessors and the fighters, for the sake of their faith. When her fame reached Florus, the governor, he brought her before him, to inquire about her religion. She confessed that she was a Christian. He tried to entice her to leave her faith by promising her many precious gifts. When she did not listen to his promises, he punished her by torturing her. Finally he ordered her to be drowned. Through a miracle, God spared her from drowning. When the governor learned that she was still alive, he ordered that she be tied up to four pegs on the ground and be beaten ferociously and thrown into a pit of fire. They did so until she gave up her pure soul and was granted the crown of martyrdom.

St. Anastasia became a martyr on December 22, in the year 303 A.D. She was 28 years old.

Why did Alix Romanov change her name to Alexandra?

Political and religious convention, when in Russia... She also changed her religion and embraced in a whirlwind study of the Russian language as well, I think she was a bit daffy in at least her thirties to make such a dynamic life-style change. she was raised Lutheran, but became Russian Orthodox. the language shift I have already described. later in her career -during the war she adopted a sort of ungainly limp that could not have been an accident, but might have been neurotic. some people, confusing her with the Wife of Edward Vii ( a relative!) also named Alexandra- the Alexandra Limp- whether this applied to Edward"s Queen also has been argued. there is some evidence her shifty ( for a Royal type) life-style may have had roots in, well a newfound tolerance for- Vodka. I got the impression she had a drinking problem when reading several historical novels on Anastasia. also of German nationality- maiden name was Von Hess ( like the big Nazi and the Gasoline) this cannot have bode well with the Russian populace as Germany was the enemy in the war- for example the battle of Tannenberg ( Pine Mountain) entirely a Russo-German clash, the Germans having the upper hand! sad and sick woman, God rest her...

Where are the two sons of grand duchess olga romanov?

Answer: The question posed is in reference to Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna. 1882-1960. youngest sister to nicholas II, last Tsar of Russia. Olga was twice married. The first was arranged by her mother the Dowager Empress Marie. Olga was betrothed at eighteen to her cousin Prince Peter of Oldenburg. Thiswas an unhappy union and almost certainly never consummated. In 1916 while serving as a Red Cross nurse Olga fell in love with an officer of the imperial army. Granted a divorce by the Tsar, Olga married Colonel Nikolai Koulikovsky. Happy at last Olga and Col. Koulikovsky escaped Russia in 1919 and settled in Denmark raising their two sons Tikon and Gouri. Both sons married raising families in Denmark and later Canada where Grand Duchess Olga settled. Her grand and great-grandchildren survive today. They all choose to live as quietly as possible having no desire to attract attention to their exalted bloodline. The first response to this question as answered below is inflammatory and insulting to not only the Imperial family but to history itself as it is speculative and fantasy based. I leave it intact below however so as to illustrate the importance of history and relating it as truthfully and respectfully as allowed in order for future generations to learn of the past and it's relation to the present. Jay W Fisher Supervisor Romanov History Room 28 April 2009 The following is one hundred percent false, misleading and inflammatory. Please see answer above and also browse the Romanov history category. The Grand Duchess Olga died in the Massacre. she was 23, unmarried, and never had any children. She was employed as a nurse in a Veteran"s hospital, the only Romanov Girl to have a straight, as opposed to honorary, occupation other than being of the Imperial House. According to one account she was wearing a grey trench coat with the insignia of a warrant officer ( probably Medical Corps) one slanted black bar ont he lower sleeve, at the time things got, literally Red-Hot. ( Red as in communist) I have not been able to confirm this. Sister Tatiana ranked as a Major or Inspector of the Imperial Counter Intellilgence Service or IKGB> She had a purple leather trench coat and unusual helmet- both have survived and were in a travelling collection of Czarist Russian relics I saw at the Newark Museum some years back, also Nicholas" Jules Jurgensen All-Services pocket watch- platinum, natch. This person is talking about OLGA ALEXANDORVNA ROMANOVA. not her niece Olga N. sadly i don't know but I know she moved to Canada maybe her sons are there.

Is Anastasia of Sirmium the same person as Anastasia Romanov?

No. the Anastasia you mention is medieval or earlier Middle-east- say Russo-Turkish theatre, saint. Anastasia Romanov, more properly Anastasia Nicolaievna- the daughter of Nicholai ( it would be bad usage to refer to her on the street, as Anastasia Romanov during the Empire, as bad as yelling ( Hey Betty Windsor!) at Queen Elizabeth II /. show some respect, the Last name was- understood and understated. she did not use the Anastasia Romanov handle until after the Diaspora, circa l922. Floreat Anastasia!
