Why did Alix Romanov change her name to Alexandra?
Political and religious convention, when in Russia... She also changed her religion and embraced in a whirlwind study of the Russian language as well, I think she was a bit daffy in at least her thirties to make such a dynamic life-style change. she was raised Lutheran, but became Russian Orthodox. the language shift I have already described. later in her career -during the war she adopted a sort of ungainly limp that could not have been an accident, but might have been neurotic. some people, confusing her with the Wife of Edward Vii ( a relative!) also named Alexandra- the Alexandra Limp- whether this applied to Edward"s Queen also has been argued. there is some evidence her shifty ( for a Royal type) life-style may have had roots in, well a newfound tolerance for- Vodka. I got the impression she had a drinking problem when reading several historical novels on Anastasia. also of German nationality- maiden name was Von Hess ( like the big Nazi and the Gasoline) this cannot have bode well with the Russian populace as Germany was the enemy in the war- for example the battle of Tannenberg ( Pine Mountain) entirely a Russo-German clash, the Germans having the upper hand! sad and sick woman, God rest her...

Where are the two sons of grand duchess olga romanov?
Answer: The question posed is in reference to Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna. 1882-1960. youngest sister to nicholas II, last Tsar of Russia. Olga was twice married. The first was arranged by her mother the Dowager Empress Marie. Olga was betrothed at eighteen to her cousin Prince Peter of Oldenburg. Thiswas an unhappy union and almost certainly never consummated. In 1916 while serving as a Red Cross nurse Olga fell in love with an officer of the imperial army. Granted a divorce by the Tsar, Olga married Colonel Nikolai Koulikovsky. Happy at last Olga and Col. Koulikovsky escaped Russia in 1919 and settled in Denmark raising their two sons Tikon and Gouri. Both sons married raising families in Denmark and later Canada where Grand Duchess Olga settled. Her grand and great-grandchildren survive today. They all choose to live as quietly as possible having no desire to attract attention to their exalted bloodline. The first response to this question as answered below is inflammatory and insulting to not only the Imperial family but to history itself as it is speculative and fantasy based. I leave it intact below however so as to illustrate the importance of history and relating it as truthfully and respectfully as allowed in order for future generations to learn of the past and it's relation to the present. Jay W Fisher Supervisor Romanov History Room 28 April 2009 The following is one hundred percent false, misleading and inflammatory. Please see answer above and also browse the Romanov history category. The Grand Duchess Olga died in the Massacre. she was 23, unmarried, and never had any children. She was employed as a nurse in a Veteran"s hospital, the only Romanov Girl to have a straight, as opposed to honorary, occupation other than being of the Imperial House. According to one account she was wearing a grey trench coat with the insignia of a warrant officer ( probably Medical Corps) one slanted black bar ont he lower sleeve, at the time things got, literally Red-Hot. ( Red as in communist) I have not been able to confirm this. Sister Tatiana ranked as a Major or Inspector of the Imperial Counter Intellilgence Service or IKGB> She had a purple leather trench coat and unusual helmet- both have survived and were in a travelling collection of Czarist Russian relics I saw at the Newark Museum some years back, also Nicholas" Jules Jurgensen All-Services pocket watch- platinum, natch. This person is talking about OLGA ALEXANDORVNA ROMANOVA. not her niece Olga N. sadly i don't know but I know she moved to Canada maybe her sons are there.

St.Petersburg, Russia, and to a limited extent, Moscow, also the various imperial palaces and retreats such as that in the Crimea and also Tsarkoe Selo or Imperial Village- that being on the outskirts of St.Petersburg and having its own railroad siding, etc, (Five Foot Gauge here). In Platinum, Eyes Only, and in Malachite refine, all praise to out Czarevna , from every Five-Foot Line!
What ever happened to the lady who claimed that she was Anastasia?
There were several. all are deceased, would be pushing ll0 years or darn near it as Anastasia was born in l90l. Two of the ladies you speak of are Eugenie Smith ( a.k.a. Eugenie Onegin) of Chicago, and the better known and more probable Anna Anderson. a Friend of my Father"s ( the friend was a Russian psychiatrist) admitted- at least half the Women, older ones in Soviet Mental hospitals have an (Anastasia complex) it is a poplular delusion there! This psychosis could also explain a morbid fear of cops and law-enforcement types- as the real Anastasia certainly had! in the Amy Irving mini-series she beat up a police photographer merely taking an ID photo for a hospital, no for the Police. ( he was Berlin PD- this is before the SS got up steam.) Anna Anderson died in l985, Eugenie more recently.
Is Anastasia of Sirmium the same person as Anastasia Romanov?
No. the Anastasia you mention is medieval or earlier Middle-east- say Russo-Turkish theatre, saint. Anastasia Romanov, more properly Anastasia Nicolaievna- the daughter of Nicholai ( it would be bad usage to refer to her on the street, as Anastasia Romanov during the Empire, as bad as yelling ( Hey Betty Windsor!) at Queen Elizabeth II /. show some respect, the Last name was- understood and understated. she did not use the Anastasia Romanov handle until after the Diaspora, circa l922. Floreat Anastasia!
Was Tatiana Romanov pretty and what color hair did she have?
well we shall stay in your historical present time-warp. Of course, Tatiana Romanov is pretty, all the four sisters are. Tatiana is an honorary intelligence officer in the Imperial KGB, and has the winter get-up with a Purple leather trench coat- epaulets and insignia of the rank of Major/Inspector ( these are equivalent ranks- a Police inspector is the same level as an Army Major.) She also has a neat specialized helmet with a sort of odd combination of a (Mercury Helmet) and academic mortarboard on top this may have been special for IKGB officers. (needless to say this headgear is in 2009 obsolete)- it was used in modified form by the Nuns in the PLAY Agnes Of God, it is not a religious costume in real life but was used in that Broadway play) Tatiana"s get up survives- I saw some of her togs at a travelling exhibit on Czarist Russia at the Newark Museum some years back. She had a Purple and Gold watch fob with the Cyrillic letters T/N superimposed. Probably enamellee platinum, cool. all of the Romanov Girls used customized Jules-Jurgensen Pocket watches- Anastasia"s survives in a Moscow collection, not for sale! The Jules Jurgensen watch was superior to the American Hamilton and was popular not only with Russian royalty but with Polar explorers such as Amundsen, Steffansson, etc. they all used the boxed Jules Jurgensen Marine.. In the twenties the company had ads showing a Polar Bear on the ice, and the caption- On Top Of The World, and a picture of the watch- plus testimonials by arctic hands, most of them were Scandinavian, and the Jules Jurgensen Marine model- was made in Copenhagen and hence govt. Issue- but High class. i ENJOYED YOUR QUESTION. Tatiana was also nicknamed or code-named Bow-=Wow- possibly she liked dogs. D"aio Sveedonya, Comrade- I think it is Female Comrade! Tatiana had auburn-brownish hair. For the person that answered above sorry to say Tatiana wasn't called Bow-Wow that was her younger sister Maria that was called that plus it was fat little bow wow, which they used in french too, le bon gros tou-tou
Did Olga Romanov have any children?
Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaievna Romanova, eldest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra, would have been 23 years old in 1918 when the family was shot and bayoneted and the bodies burned.
There is no record of her having ever married, although there were many rumours of prospective husbands. Due to the political and international turmoil of the period, and her heavy commitment to the duties of her position including nursing of wounded soldiers, and the fact that the family was mostly locked away in seclusion at Tsarskoe Selo, it is unlikely that she married or had any children.
There are a great many rumours concerning the Romanov children, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Alexis, that one, some or all of them survived, but technology is gradually disproving the rumours.
Well of course the Olga people are talking about didnt. But her aunt Olga Alexandrovna Romanova had 2 sons.
The Imperial Double Eagle was the national emblem under the Czars. There are a number of varieties, some have two heads sharing one crown, some have two crowns and some- do not confuse with the Italian ( Triple Crown) have three! On the Eagle"s Breast is a scene of a Knight fighting a Dragon- the Saint George bit, the Order of ST. The Field Grade badge- limited to officers of Field Grade ( major and above) was worn about the neck like the German (Blue Max) after which it may have been patterned, this was a white enamelled Platinum Maltese ( don"t say Iron) Cross of eight points. There was also an Alexandra cross which was not a war medal- but a House Order limited to Female members of the Imperial family- there were five made- Original One for the Czarina, and one for each primary Grand Duchess ( Nicolai"s four daughters) interestingly other noblewomen of Grand Ducal rank- such as Princess Elizabeth who was the sister of the Czar, while princesses, were not eligible for the Alexandra Cross. the Alexandra Cross was platinum with a malachite ( green enamelled) inset. Only five were made not counting wearing copies for parties and what we would now call press conferences, a (social gathering) at the Kremlin, e.g. One and possibly two of these priceless items survived the revolution- being Platnum they are rugged, and one was exhibited in New York in the mid-thirties at a department store by a Russian charitable group. I know, My dad saw it with his girlfriend, who was of the Sovietskaya Ukraine, as she styled it and a deep-purple Anastasia fan.
Is Anna Anderson Anastasia romanov?
Evidence exists for and against. after her death, her body was cremated- destroying any possibility of comparative anatomy ( Hey, she is not a fossil of a dinosaur or something) She knew too many details of life in the Romanov household to have ficitonalized them all. Methinks-Da- Girl Czarina of all the Russias- So Be it ( maybe not the best closure!) sounds like Soviet.

The White army was coming close to free the Romanov so they thought to get rid of them all together so nicholas could not take back the throne

Did Rasputin cause the deaths of the Romanovs?
Rasputin was a man who took care of tsarevich alexei, who was a hemophiliac. Scholars think he hypnotized the young prince to alleviate his suffering when he had a bruise (the internal bleeding wouldn't stop, and the wound would become swollen and quite painful).
While only the tsaritsa respected him, Rasputin was not the direct cause of the deaths of the Romanovs. He was under their patronage, it would not have behooved him to have them killed. rather, they were murdered by the bolsheviks, in the "house of special purpose". They were shot by 11 executioners, and because they had all of their precious jewels sewn into the lining of their clothing, some of the bullets bounced off of them. This is why some rumors arose of the family being protected by god.
The Czarevich (Crown Prince) was born in l904 and was heir-apparent to the throne. He would have been l4 at the time of the Massacre. He was a hemophiliac so chances of survival were extremely slim. None of his sisters had the disease, and certainly not the perky Anastasia.
He was born on August 12 (July 30 O.S.) He was 13 they were killed on the 17th of July 1918
Maria was the third daughter of Tsar Nikolai and Tsarina Alexandra of Russia. She was the older sister of Anastasia. Also a great-granddaughter to Queen Victoria.
Did the Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich Romanov have disease?
The Crown prince suffered from Hemophilia. this was common knowledge. there is no way he could have survived the St.Petersburg Massacre- which actually occurred in Ekaterinberg, city of Catherine. One wonders. A. if he had died of Natural Causes, then one of this sisters, namely the oldest Olga would be Propriat Apparent Heiress and -had all the revolutionary troubles NOT occured, she would have been the first Regant Czarina on the death of Nicolai. Olga was a compassionate young woman who was a registered nurse with the Imperial Red Cross, and plyed her trade at the various Veteran"s Hospitals which were full during the war. she probaby would have made a better Czarina than Stacy, but this did not happen.
The fourth and youngest Czarevna ( Crown Princess) of the family of Nicholas II, the last Czar of Russia. She is also correctly styled a Grand Duchess.
