Elena is teenager who lives in the town of Mystic Falls, here adopted parents get into a car accident and both die. Elena has a cousin named Jeremey which is like her brother. Elena's birthmother is named Isobel she is a vampire now and Elena's birth Father Johnathan Gilbert was her adopted father's brother. Elena is considered a doppleganger because Kathrine Pierce looks exactly like her. Kathrine Pierce is Elena's boyfriend Stefan's old love. Stefan is a vampire who loves Elena. Stefan has a older brother named Damon who is also in love with Elena. Elenan's 2 best friends are named Bonnie and Caroline. Bonnie is a witch with magic power who like Elena's brother Jeremy. Caroline is a vampire who was turned into a vampire right before she was about to die. Carolines mother is the sheriff of Mystic Falls. Also Caroline loves Matt. Matt is best friends with Elena they have known each other every since childhood. Matt had a sister named Vikky who got turned into a vampire at the begging of the show. Vikky died and Matt got very upset because that was his only sibling and he couldn't lean on his mom because she was a druggy and never came home to see her children. Matt also has another friend named Tyler Lookwood, Tyler has a family curse that runs through his blood. The lookwood family is one of the founding families of Mystic Falls. Tyler's father dies in a church were many vampire were placed in 1864 to burn and die. The curse that rus through Tylers bood is that if someone dies in his hand he will become a werewolf. The Warewolf is very uncommon now days. Warewolfs can bite Vampires and if that happenes it will be fatal. Tylers uncle comes to check on him and while he is visting Tyler he dissapers and dies. Damon and Stefan kill him to get answers on werewolfs and a mystery curse that will get the vampires out of vampirism. The curse was called the moonstone curse to break that curse you must first find the moonstone and if you find it a ceromony will be placed in a sacrifice will be held by the doppleganger which is Elena. Elena is the key to breaking the vampire curse for the curse to be complete you also need a witch (Bonnie) and a vampire I believe( Isobell,Stefan,Kathrine,Caroline or Matt) Matt gets turned in to a vampire by Caroline right before he is about to die because a witch stabbes him in the neck with a peice of broken glass. Okay, now that we've established that, in the second book, Elena drinks the blood of both Damon and Stefan. The thing is, Stefan only gives her a little of his blood because he believed that he wouldn't give enough to turn her into a undead. And then in comes Damon, who kind of forces Elena to spend a night with him, and the exchange of blood happens then as well. At the end of book two, Elena is driving on a bridge and she drowns because she drives into the river. Stefan is devastated and goes after Damon, whom he holds responsible. And Elena wakes up, suddenly undead and a vampire.oh btw stefen dosse NOT drive of the brige in the tv show so dont get ur hopes up!

I personally like damon, i feel like we're so alike in many things he does bad things but he's true with himself and with elena he always loved elena and i think he always will, but i know some people choose stefan because he plays the role of the "good" man.. yeah it's true but stefan is good with every girl he meets unlike damon he's only good with elena and he's willing to do anything to please her which means he can't live without her but stefan can.

The main series is 4 books (The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury, Dark Reunion) but ther are also a couple other parts to it, The Return (Nightfall, Shadow Souls, Midnight) and Stefan's Diaries (Origins, Bloodlust)

Rose gets bitten by a werewolf and legend says that a werewolf bite is deadly to a vampire. Rose has insane moments( effect of the bite) she is miserable and basically wants to die and Damon kills her to end her suffering.

yes Stefan and Elena end up together in the book though in the book Damon tells Elena that Stefan is dead and Elena believed him. I didn't read the whole series but from what I read that is what happened.

Yes, the mian series they are prety much through out but in The Return series its's pretty hard to figure out right now. Two books are out, Nightfall and the most recent Shadow Souls and the third one is predicted to be out sometime this year titled Midnight. I haven't picked up SS but I'm guessing they'll be together, she said all of hr books have happy endings...
