The Vampire Diaries book series is written by the author L.J. Smith. The series is about the teenage high school girl Elena Gilbert which meet the two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. The original series contain four books, but because of the pressure by the fans, the author made a spin-off trilogy later.

In The Vampire Diaries do Damon and Elena kiss?
The first time they kiss in the books happens in 'The Struggle'.
In the Season 1 finale, Damon thought he kissed Elena but it turned out to be Katherine instead.

Probably not. Damon loves Elena, but I read that Rose is supposed to be Damon's love interest. Bonnie is starting to form a bond with Jeremy, but she'll probably become closer to that new warlock, Luka.
In the books, Damon only cares for three people. Stefan, Elena, and Bonnie. And there are a few *eehem* sexy scenes between Bonnie and Damon. In fact Damon's emotions are usually not described in the books. It usually an outside character that's reading his motives or emotions and commenting or reflection on him. But in Nightfall, there is this scene where Damon saves Bonnie from death. It's called the "Bath Scene" from Bamon fans. Damon is a very tormented character in the books, and this was a wonderful insight into what he actually feels. It's actually very long in Nightfall and this is only a small piece:

The sun bonnets and the parasols literally keep the sun away and figuratively keep the women from seeing society and the true life of people. These items keep them secluded from the ugliness of society and the new ideas that some people have. The gloves keep the women from literally touching the world; they should be kept under control. The cover illustration displays the typically Victorian clothing where Edna is literally and figuratively secluded from society. When Edna goes swimming, travels to the island, and finally when she dies she always undresses. This symbolically removes society from her body paralleling the removal of her clothes. Edna's lack of clothing exposes who she really is and her individuality. She sheds her clothes in order to find herself without society trying to pull her towards the traditional Victorian roles. As Edna progresses in her self discovery, she takes more and more clothes off until there are no more and she is free.
I can only answer for the TV series. The big shocker for everyone if you haven't seen was the ending of episode 8 of season 2 called "ROSE"
