Yes, it is. I do not know any FtM's personally, but i have heard that the surgeries for FtM is less realistic than those for MtF.

As with MtF's, FtM's are reccomended to see a phycologist, to get a reccomendation, to give an endocrinologist for hormones.

As for the surgeries for FtM's they are:

Mastectomy - Removal of the breast

Hysterectomy - removal of the uterus

Phalloplasty - The surgery to create a penis (usually from the enlarged clitoris caused by the male hormones)

There is no exact timeline. Some transmen transition socially without hormones or surgery. Those transitioning medically may choose to have top surgery and not do hormones, or choose to do hormones and not have surgery. In some states it is possible to change gender markers on your id with a doctor's letter. To change federal id you must have a surgeon's letter. Bottom surgeries include hysterectomy, phalloplasy, and meditioplasty. There are several resources online for transmen looking to medically or socially transition.

I think the most important thing, is that there IS no consistent "legal definition" of sex or gender, in almost any jurisdiction. The primary things that are associated with this are: 1. Primary legal id. In the USA this is a drivers license or non-drvers have an identity card. In the UK, this is the birth certificate. 2. Local jursidction specifics A. in California , the drivers license can be updated with a "DMV" form, if the person has a letter from their doctor. Federal versus state regulations. In the USA, this is mainly the social security record. So, a more specific question that can be answered is: Is it possible for a pre-op trans-girl to get her Driver's license and Social security records changed from M to F. Possible? yes Easy,no The usual ways involve getting a orchiectomy(castration) getting a court ordered name change, and being very believable and convincing when dealing with specific clerks. I have had one friend tell me that when SHE did it all she just pretended it was all a little typo, and could they fix that up please. At the opposite end. A born woman in south africa, DID get her legal id done with a typo, and tried to get that fixed and was told that she would have to have a official letter from her sex change surgeon. Crazy huh? So,the big deal, is that it is very inconsistent from one jurisdiction to the next.

* As disappointing and perhaps disturbing this may be for you realize this could be a phase. Many young children (ages five to twelve) will try on their sister's clothing simply out of curiosity. This does not mean your son his transsexual. If your son is 10 years or older sit down and communicate with him. Ask him right out why he prefers to wear his sister's clothing. * Transvestism must be one of the most harmless hobbies. And yet nearly three quarters of male transvestites admit that they live in constant fear of being found out by prejudiced relatives, neighbours or employers. One man who wrote to me to help with my survey drove to a nearby town to post his anonymous letter. Many say they don't understand why women can wear male clothing - but men can't wear female clothes.

* Some wives are scornful and dismissive. Others are patronising and refuse to try and understand. Time and time again I have read pitiful letters from transvestites whose wives `allow' them to dress for one hour a week - as long as they do it in secret.

* Three quarters of all transvestites' partners know that the man in their lives dress in women's clothing. But a quarter of partners do not know.

* There is good reason for the secrecy since most wives or girlfriends who know about their partner's cross dressing disapprove. They miss a lot of fun by being so selfish, narrow minded and disapproving.

* Happily, just over a third of wives and girlfriends actively help their men dress as women by helping with make up and clothes. Many women admit they get a sexual turn on from seeing their male partner in silky, feminine clothes. It is common for transvestites whose partners do approve to have sex while dressed as a woman.

* The vast majority of transvestites are heterosexual.

* The average transvestite spends 12 hours a week dressed as a woman - but would like to spend 70 hours a week (rather more than half the `waking' week) dressed in feminine clothes.

* A growing number of men have discovered that putting on stockings and a frock is the quickest way to escape from the stressful responsibilities of being a man. I have little doubt that more men would live longer if transvestism was more widely accepted. I believe that transvestism is one of the least harmful of all hobbies and one that no man should feel ashamed of. It is, I believe, a perfectly acceptable way for any man to escape from the day to day stresses of being a man in a stressful world. It's fun and clearly gives a lot of men a great deal of pleasure and it is difficult to think of any activity which is less likely to do harm to anyone. Men who dress in womens' clothes bring out a normal, healthy part of their own femininity, broaden their outlook on life and enjoy a temporary respite from the responsibilities and demands of being male. I'm always sad to read of the number of women who do not accept their husband's crossdressing. Time after time I have opened letters from men whose wives have treated them horrendously badly. I think it is appalling that any woman should have the nerve to say to her partner: `Oh, well if you must then I suppose you must - but you can only do it for an hour a week and you must make sure that the curtains are drawn and that I'm well out of the house and by the way I don't want to see any sign of your silly women's clothing and so on when I get back.' No woman would, I hope, dare say anything like this to a man who took up golf or model making. I think it is sad that transvestism should be regarded as so much more horrendous than anything else - though I believe that deep seated and completely false prejudices are probably at the root of it all. Many women probably assume that most transvestites are either homosexual or else candidates for sex change surgery. But, on the whole, there is a huge difference between transvestites and transsexuals. Transsexuals are like golfers - they lose their balls. Transvestites are keen to keep theirs. My survey has made it absolutely clear that the vast majority of transvestites are heterosexual and happy to be men. (Curiously, crossdressing is so misunderstood and commonly reviled that some women would doubtless prefer it if they found out that their husband was gay or wanted to change sex.) Gender identity is the deep and prevailing sense about who you are, as to whether you are a man/boy or a woman/girl. It stems from the most basic parts of who you are inside, and it has nothing to do with choice or what genitals you have.

It is gender identity which drives people to take hormones and alter their genitalia with surgery. They don't transition to become the "other sex," but because at a certain level, they are already that "other sex." They need to be treated by others in a way consistent with who they have always been inside. The need to transition has nothing to do with libido nor any sexual urges. A good number of transsexual persons are of the asexual orientation. That is ironic when the sex industry spreads the notion that people with transsexualism are promiscuous, when they have a similar or lower sex drive as that of the identified gender.

I know this is difficult for you, but you shouldn't be keeping this a secret from your wife. It's better to sit down alone with her and express why you prefer to dress up as a woman. Many men dress in women's clothing and are not gay, so clear that up immediately. This is between the two of you and she may accept it or ask you to go for help for what she considers a problem you have. If I were you, I would go and seek psychiatric help just out of curiosity as to why you prefer to dress in women's clothing. If you do it in the privacy of your home and your wife accepts this, then it's OK, but you certainly can't dress as a woman and go out with your wife. There would be a lot of explaining to do and I don't think your wife is up to it. Please talk to your wife. She may have some suspicions, or she may be totally surprised, but if you tell her it's a big load off your shoulders and both of you can come to some agreement as to what to do about it. If your partner is a female-to-male (F2M) transexual, simply put, NO! Your partner would identify as male so you would still be straight. Some F2Ms, if not all of them would find it offensive if there partner still classed them as female.

Transgender women are real in terms of them existing. If one is asking about whether they are genuine women or not is up to personal interpretation. Some would consider them as being on par with non-transgender (cisgender) women, while others would consider them valid members of their own separate gender. Then of course there are people who do not think positively about transgender women.

It depends. The term "transgender female" is ambiguous. If you mean a transgendered person keeping their original parts, then they will be fertile as long as they are not taking hormones and have no medical or physical problems.

If you mean an actual transsexual woman, then she will never be able to reproduce as a female, and after her genital correction surgery, she won't be able to father a child either. If she was born intersexed, that is a different matter, and she might be able to reproduce as a female if those parts are functional and intact.

If you're referring to MtF trans* women, the popular destination people are aware of whereupon trans women are treated as a spectacle is Thailand. In reality? Everywhere. Your neighbour, your shop keeper, your colleague. You never know (and nor should you, to be fair).

Gays and lesbians are fine. Women can also be called gay.

Queer is not acceptable by everyone. Although some people prefer it, there are just as many that do not. If you don't know how a person feels about the word "queer", then gay and lesbian are best because they are universally acceptable.

"Homosexual" is outdated, and usually used mainly by people who oppose gay rights.

It's not only possible, it is how most transvestites find themselves: having issues as 3 and 4 years old, way before any real ideas of sex, sex roles and orientation start. A few transvestites find out later in life they are TVs, most often these are fetish oriented but a few just never thought about it. it seems about 3 to 4 years old is where society in general starts assigning gender (roles not sex) and that's where the issues start.

A person might be born with a vagina and designated female at birth, but later in life not identify as a girl and might transition (via testosterone therapy and/or sex-reassignment surgery) to living as a man. So, yes, guys can have vaginas.

Also, there are men who were born with male or ambiguous genitalia and who choose to get sex-reassignment surgery and continue living as men. Some mistakenly transition, while others deliberately get the surgery with the intention of living fully as men. In the latter case, such men refer to the neo-vagina as an "inverted penis" or a "mangina," a term coined by a guy who mistakenly transitioned to female with surgery. Physically no you wouldn't be able to become a female with out surgery done, unless you want to event some drug or something that would change you to the opposite gender like they have in some futuristic type of scenario within movies and books and so on, but other wise no.
