Apparently the Federal Government is considered the same as any other employer when it comes to unemployment benefits. Each state administers the program and a person has to go through the same qualification process as any other claimant. See the Related Link below for more information.

They are automatically mailed out by January 31st. Make sure that your address is updated and correct in their system. If you do not receive the 1099 by the 2nd week of February, then you should contact them to resend it. Most unemployment offices offer the ability to go online and request a 1099 copy and/or print it out online. You should wait the allotted time though since it takes them some time to make it available online.

People who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own and, in rare cases, if you quit due to work conditions/circumstances or family issues. As each state has its own regulations, you need to check with your state for clarification.

it is extended through nov...if you have been filing then they will back pay you for the past weeks that you have not been getting. I believe the payment is for all of July until nov,then congress will have to go back and vote on whether to extend it again or not

If you are initially approved for unemployment benefits in Ohio you may collect benefits for 26 weeks, providing you meet all eligibility requests each week. After you exhaust your initial 26 weeks, you may qualify for Federal Extended unemployment benefits. If approved, your weekly benefit amount will remain the same. This is called the Tier 1 program. If you still were actively seeking, but unable to seek employment within the Tier 1 program you may qualify for the Tier 2 program, which may be a lower benefit amount than the initial 26 weeks or the Tier 1 program.

There are two primary categories of tools that may be used by a government to reduce unemployment. Monetary tools involve the availability and cost of money in the economy. At the simplest level, it means printing more money. But in fact, the way a government increases or decreased the money supply is by lending and borrowing money on the open market in the way of bonds. The government can lend the economy money at a very low interest rate. This makes money cheap to borrow, money flows into the economy and creates growth. If there is inflation, the government lends at a higher rate, making borrowing more expensive, and decreasing the money supply, contracting growth, and slowing inflation.

Fiscal policy is the other category. Government taxing and spending is fiscal policy. A government can slow an economy by increasing taxes, thus reducing the amount of disposable income of consumers, and redirect that money to specific projects. Roosevelt's new deal changed the tax structure, and borrowed money, spending that money specifically on jobs projects to employ the maximum number of workers. Great infrastructure projects like the Hoover dam, and the Tennessee Valley Authority, were built in this way.

In United States politics, one of the great debates continues to be over fiscal policy, with Republicans arguing that lower taxes, and lower government spending, creates economic and job growth in the private sector. They also argue that the growth created by lower taxes creates more tax revenue in the long run due to the greater total spending.

Democrats agree that lower taxes lead to growth, but only to a point, and then there are diminishing returns. When taxes become too low, necessary government functions are impaired, as tax revenues decrease at a greater rate than increases in revenues created by growth. The resulting decrease in government revenue creates a need for the government to borrow on the open market due to deficit spending, thus decreasing the money supply in the economy, and leading to slower growth.

My editorial comment is that both parties are right to a point. Taxes must be adjusted to meet the needs of the nation for revenue, and balanced against economic forces described above that may be in play at any given time. One cannot have a cookie cutter approach to all economic situations, such as always having extremely low, or very high taxes, or very limited, or more expansive government involvement in creating GNP.

Some other specific steps involve trade policy. Import and export taxes, as well as subsidies, can retain or increase jobs in certain industries. These strategies, however, lead to inefficiency and economic distortion which, in turn, can lead to lower GNP, and, arguably, fewer total jobs. There are arguments for such protectionism. These arguments include the creation of a greater variety of jobs to suit a variety of talents, and create a more diversified labor pool. For example, not everyone in the U.S. is well suited to be a banker, lawyer, or doctor. There must be a variety of jobs available to suit the variety of talents in the labor market. Similarly, having a reliable domestic supply of food is generally considered a matter of national security. Therefore, Great Britain, as well as most other nations, use fiscal policy to encourage domestic agriculture at the expense of imported food.

Owner's heirs will take over the business or someone who knows about the business will take over the job. It should not be discontinued. If the heirs do not take care of the company properly then the business might be lost.

Yes, but only for the total of 99 weeks as before. The problem the law, signed in 2010, solved was the money had run out for those entitled to the 99 weeks but who hadn't collected what they still had credit coming for. In other words you can receive up to 99 weeks now.

Nope. I sent the form two times already and still nothing. I was able to claim for one week, never received a check and was never able to claim another week. I've tried to call several times and it's always busy or off the hook. Also, I believe they were closed the day after Christmas and New Years. Yesterday I sent an email to Bill Nelson's office and did not receive an answer. I have also emailed the US Department of Labor telling them what I've going through. Maybe they are using the money for something else.

no, because AmeriCorps members are not technically employees, they are volunteers. they receive a stipend, but that is not considered a salary or a wage.

Yes, in California, anyway, a laid-off teacher can collect unemployment. They can apply after their first day of unemployment. There is usually a waiting period of two weeks, then they receive a check. Then they fill out a form every two weeks stating either they have not worked, have not been too sick to work, refused work and have looked for work OR have worked whether or not they have been paid, and the amount they have earned, whether or not they have received their pay. Unless tenured, and receiving paychecks every month during the school year even when school is not in session, most teachers have no absolute certainty of having their employment begin again in the fall. Most likely it will, and then they will start to report the income, at which time unemployment checks will cease. They also must be aware of taxes due on unemployment income, which can be deducted from each unemployment check, so that there is no surprise when taxes are due in April. This has saved our family from financial disaster the past two years.
