You may be thinking of Sonnet 18:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
It is a different number each year.

We celebrate Valentine's Day, because until 1969, it was one of the many Saint's Days observed by the Catholic Church. It was dedicated to the patron saint of romantic causes, St. Valentine.
Arizona is the Valentine State, because Arizona was admitted on February 14, 1912, as the 48th state. There's also the slogan "Virginia is for lovers". And there is the city of Valentine, Nebraska.
Well, I think that even though there are different dates of Valentines in the whole world, people/couples/boyfriends/girlfriends still do the same things to each other like sending flowers. Including Japan.
Valentine's Day is celebrated in Japan on February 14th. Unlike many other countries, on Valentine's Day, only girls may give presents to boys on this day.
There is a separate day for boys to give girls presents. This is called "White Day".
In Japan, Valentines Day and White Day are celebrated differently than in the West. Women give chocolates to men, ad then men reply a month later, giving chocolates to women. Gay couples usually do whatever they want. Some exchange chocolates. Others only give chocolates to their opposite sex co-workers.
Yes, Valentine's Day is celebrated in Italy. One translation of that day into Italian is 'il giorno della festa degli innamorati', which literally means 'the day of the festival of the lovers'. Additionally, Saint Valentine was buried in the Via Flaminia of Rome, Italy. He also is the patron saint of the Umbrian town of Terni, where a torchlight parade honors his memory each year.
Lent is observed on the same dates everywhere in the world, even Spain. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, lasts 40 days not counting Sundays and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. In 2009, Ash Wednesday will fall on February 25 and Easter will fall on April 12. February

Yes, Valentine's Day is celebrated throughout all Christian places (or even non-Christian places) in the world as it is a Christian Holiday; South America is mostly Christian and yes, the holiday is celebrated throughout the continent. Some countries, such as Brazil, however celebrate a similar holiday but on a different day of the year other than February 14.
Valentine's Day is celebrated in Asia, or more specifically Japan and Korea, as a day on which women, and less commonly men, give candy, chocolate or flowers to people they like. Those who work in offices end up giving chocolates to all their male co-workers. This chocolate is known as giri-choko in Japan, from the words giri ("obligation) and choko, a common short version of chokor累 meaning "chocolate". This contrasts with honmei-choko, which is given to a person someone loves or has a strong relationship with. Friends, especially girls, exchange chocolate that is referred to as tomo-choko tomo means "friend" in Japanese. White Day has emerged. On March 14, men are expected to return the favour to their true love with chocolates on Valentine's Day, but it was originally white chocolate or marshmallows; hence "White Day". Some Asian men have taken it further and lingerie has become a common gift. In Korea, there is an additional Black Day on April 14, and receive nothing from their true loves so the men sit around on Valentine's Day and eat Jajangmyun (Chinese-style noodles in black sauce). In South Korea, there is also Pepero Day, celebrated on November 11, during which young couples give each other romantic gifts. When it all comes out in the wash once again the Asian women get the worst of it. They not only have to buy for their lover, but also for all the men in the office where she works (at her own cost) and it can be extremely expensive, while the men only have to buy for his one true love.

Like so many Christian holidays, Valentine's Day has pagan origins. The Romans would hold a love lottery in which young men would draw an eligible woman's name and court her for the coming year, trusting that it was the will of the god of love. Later, when Rome became Christian, the Church substituted St. Valentine for the god of love and in the lottery people drew the names of saints whom they would they try to emulate for the coming year. Of course, this wasn't nearly as much fun as the old love lottery so the festival reverted to its former status as a day for lovers. St. Valentine was a Christian priest who performed marriages of soldiers in defiance of an imperial edict (the emperor didn't want his troops saddled with wives and kids for fear it would distract them from the business of warfare.)
Valentine's Day is not a traditionally celebrated holiday in Vietnam. As such, there is no direct translation for the word Valentine. Happy is translated as 'hanh phuc'; Day is translated as 'ngay'. To directly translate the full phrase "Happy Valentine's Day" is "ngay hanh phuc Valentine". For the Vietnamese familiar with that celebratory day they will most likely say happy Valentine's day in English.
