Hughesnet is horrible! Wildblue is not much better. The only time you get the really high speeds that they advertise is when no one else is online (such as after midnight when everyone else is asleep. My everyday download speeds on Hughesnet were under 200K for most of the day If you live in a remote area where good high speed service,such as DSL or cable, is not available then I would recommend you go with Verizon 3G MiFi as your service provider. You will get much faster speeds with 3G than ANY of the internet satellite companies. The Verizon packages are limited like the satellite packages, meaning that you can only use so much per month, but at least with Verizon you get much better service for the money. It is important to understand that any limited internet service is NOT for streaming or downloading large movie files, so services like Netflix streaming or Video on Demand would not work for limited internet access you would have to live in an area that provides UNLIMITED high speed internet access for movie streaming. If Verizon 3G doesn't cover your area either, then check the other cell phone companies to see if they have 3G coverage with internet options.

Your phone will only do what it can where you are. If you have a phone that is capable of being used abroad it should work the same way it does in your home country. If you don't want your phone to ring while you are abroad you can either turn the phone fully off or if your phone has an "airplane" setting switching to that your phone won't beep or ring. You also won't be able to make outgoing calls. The question is really pretty vague.

Legally, Verizon cannot provide you with that information. However, if you call late enough (around 10:30 PM Eastern), some tired CSRs might be willing to give you this info.

The most likely cause is due to the number in question being "ported" from one carrier to another (to keep your phone number). The original carrier may not fully transition the line although most functions appear to work.

This recently happened to me when we ported 5 lines from Verizon to AT&T. I have heard of this issue many times so hope this can help. In my case 4 of the 5 lines worked in all aspects, a single line worked for all phone calls, all outgoing text messages and all incoming text messages except from when the incoming text originated from a Verizon customer. Upon calling Verizon (about another issue) they confirmed that the line was not "suspended". Apparently when a number is ported the original carrier suspends the line until the end of the billing cycle. In this case, this single line was not suspended (although the rest were). Within an hour of placing the line in question in a "suspended" state text messages from a Verizon sender to the line (on AT&T) worked as expected.

Verizon support did not believe this would cause any issues however it appears we obviously proved otherwise, that or it was some very very strange timing.
