The story goes that on the night of 23 December 1888, Van Gogh cut off the lower half of his left ear (not the whole ear) and took it to a brothel, where he presented it to one of his prostitute friends. It has been speculated that one cause of this unusual behaviour was that it was the result of an argument with his painter friend Paul Gauguin, although that does not fully explain why he engage in such strange behaviour. Regardless of the reason, soon after this incident, van Gogh admitted himself to a mental institution. Two years later, suffering from severe depression, Van Gogh shot himself in the chest.

When sharing an apartment with his friend and fellow artist Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh was shaving and heard a voice telling him to kill his room mate, this was later diagnosed by Vincents doctor as a seizure in which the noise sounded as though it was coming from a person standing to his left. Acting on what he had been told to do, van Gogh walked to the park in which his room mate was walking in an attempt to kill him with the same straight razor he was shaving with. After an unsuccesfull attempt however Vincent decided to instead cut off the source or the voice, the lower portion of his left ear, he then proceeded to do so and wrapped the dismembered extremity in a newspaper which he later gave to a prostitute named Rachel asking her to keep it safe. Vincent and Paul never saw each other after this incident.

We've been told by the art experts in the past of all the madness, afflictions and diseases, supposed worthlessness of his art, the disappointments concerning almost everything that he did or tried to do in life,.. which in fact does makes for some wonderment about this question. Vincent did speak four languages, Dutch, English, German and French. He worked as a art dealer In the most exclusive art galleries such as The Goupel Cie Gallery in London, Paris, Amsterdam, The Hague while selling prints of masters along with handling originals works of living and of dead artists. Mostly they were European artists he was selling for over 7 years while working for his art dealing uncle Cent, partners of the art galleries. After his so-called sacking, Vincent taught boys at a boarding school different languages for little money, room and board. He work at a book store, a Library, and I believe he work also at a Photography studio, some time within the ten years of his art career after that fateful career as a lay preacher man.

He supposedly produce more works than Rembrandt,... another famous Dutch artist, and is said just as good if not better of an artist. He could handle Light a dark along with being able to paint in the metamorphosis just as Rembrandt did.

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) checked himself in 1890 into an asylum in Auvers-sur-Oise, north of Paris. While I don't know its name, it was here that he began treatment with Dr. Paul Gachet, who became (like many people van Gogh encountered) the subject of many van Gogh art paintings.
