Try to run check for RAM. It's possible that one of banks regularly not used gets activated when you start virtual machine. I would recommend to run full system check (CPU, hard drive etc).

Also try to writing down the error of blue screen if you can.

How do you install windows 7 on vmware view?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You Don't!

You install windows 7 in a virtual machine with VMware Infrastructure, you then setup the VMware view servers with your AD. Then you install the tiny Vmware View agent on the windows 7 computer which is then streamed through the View server with you windows Credentials straight to you. the computer is not sent to you, instead a video of the computer's screen is sent to you. that is how it works.

How does the VMware FileSystem Sync Driver vmsync work?

User Avatar

Asked by DavidCary

The VMware FileSystem Sync Driver (vmsync) is a new feature that

creates backups of virtual machines.

Creating quiesced snapshots using the SYNC driver requires waiting for I/O to

drain in the guest operating system. This might affect time‐sensitive applications,

such as DBHammer.

If you do not install the SYNC driver when installing VMware Tools, you can avoid

the delay caused by the I/O draining. However, it results in snapshots being only

crash‐consistent, unless you provide custom quiescing through pre‐backup and

post‐backup scripts in the guest

If the guest operating system is Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, or other

newer Windows operating systems, a Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS)

module is installed. For other, older Windows operating systems, the

Filesystem Sync driver is installed. These modules enable backup applications

to create application-consistent snapshots. During the snapshotting process,

certain processes are paused and virtual machine disks are quiesced.

What is Metro vMotion?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There's a new component that is part of vMotion which is only enabled with Enterprise Plus and that components is what we call 'Metro vMotion'. This feature enables you to safely vMotion a virtual machine across a link of up to 10 miliseconds RTT.

In the case of vMotion the standard socket buffer size is around 0.5MB. Assuming a 1GbE network (or 125MBps) then bandwidth delay product dictates that we could support roughly 5ms RTT delay without a noticeable bandwidth impact. With the "Metro vMotion" feature, we'll dynamically resize the socket buffers based on the observed RTT over the vMotion network. So, if you have 10ms delay, the socket buffers will be resized to 1.25MB, allowing full 125MBps throughput. Without "Metro vMotion", over the same 10ms link, you would get around 50MBps throughput

In vSphere 4.1, vMotion is supported only when the latency between the source and destination ESXi/ESX hosts is less than 5 ms RTT (round-trip time). For higher latencies, not all workloads are guaranteed to converge

In vSphere 4.1, vMotion is supported only when the latency between the source and destination ESXi/ESX hosts is less than 5 ms RTT (round-trip time). For higher latencies, not all workloads are guaranteed to converge.

With Metro vMotion in vSphere 5.0, vMotion can be used to move a running virtual machine when the source and destination ESX hosts have a latency of more than 5ms RTT. The maximum supported round trip time latency between the two hosts is now 10ms. Metro vMotion is only available with vSphere Enterprise Plus license

How does VMware memory ballooning work?

User Avatar

Asked by DavidCary

Transparent Page Sharing is one of the methods to avoid redundant page/memory allocation . Balloon driver will not be present if vmware tools are not installed .

If reservation is not specified , the non-reserved memory is always swappable to disk . So whenever there is memory pressure on the host , the old pages are swapped to disk and pages freed from swap is provided to the guest .
