It has a wire under the drivers seat that if junk moves it around causes a false ground. The air bag will still work which is good. The connector is blue and yellow. To avoid a garage visit reach under and move the wire. It should solve the issue, keep your under the seat area clear..

You need to look up codes using a scan tool, or better yet VIDA.
VOLVO MANUFACTURES VOLVO CARS. THIS MAY SOUND LKE THE OBVIOUS ANSWER BUT VOLVO IS AN INDEPNDANT Car company. It was bought by ford a few years ago but they still make their own cars. Depending on the model they are made in sweden, belgium or holland. They may have another plant but I know of these three.
Trouble code P1014 means: CMP Sensor/CKP Sensor Signals Not Compatible
No , the 1.9 liter 4 cylinder , the 2.4 liter 5 cylinder , and the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder
engines in a 2004 Volvo S40 are not interference engines
if your car is still running fine it usually an o2 senser
On the backside in the middle of the seats there is two buttons you have to push and then pull up the headrest.

The typical cause of problems for ignition coils would be corrosion from air flow or exposure to any chemicals, lubricants, solvents, or cleaners in common use around the motor. The connecting points will get corroded causing a lower grade spark and possibly intermittent spark. Coils will occasionally fail altogether internally becoming useless, but this is rare. In older cars with distributors and ignition points, coils sometimes overheat from current strength and would melt the wires connected to it.
How do I know if I am having coil problems?
If you have a complete coil failure, it would be easy to tell as your car won't start. If you have the more common corrosion problem, then it all comes down to a weaker and intermittent spark as the transmission of your electrical current will be disrupted. Symptoms of this problem include hesitation while starting the car, weak throttle response during acceleration, rough idle, misfiring, backfiring, and dim or weak accessories like the headlights and radio.
The 2007 Volvo S40 oil filter is a cartridge type filter that drops into a housing. Although I don't have personal experience changing the oil filter on this type of car, I have sold a few recently to do-it-yourselfers who haven't reported any problems changing the filter. If Jiffy Lube said they couldn't do the job, I would guess it was because a) they couldn't find a source of the filter in the first place (i.e., they didn't have it in stock and couldn't find a supplier to deliver to them); b) the oil filter housing cap might require a special size socket/tool that Jiffy Lube didn't have. Assuming they DID already have the correct filter (or you purchased one yourself and brought it in to them), then most likely they didn't have the right tool. On the other hand, the filter itself is relatively hard to find at most parts stores because it's a newer item (and maybe the dealership parts dept. was closed on the weekend) ... so that could be the case as to why Jiffy Lube couldn't do it.
"The best way to find out how much any used vehicle is worth is through Kelly's Blue Book. It will offer you pricing by dealer, private sale, as well as a trade-in cost."
Open the bonnet first. You'll notice just inside the car behind the lights, situated between the headlight and indicator housings, a screw - a couple inches down inside.
Loosen this screw but do not take it out. Then gently pull the indicator housing out and forwards until two clips release at the back.
Next, the bulb fixings will be attached to the housins. Rotate it slightly to release, and hey presto, the bulb is out in the open, for you to change.
bigger intercooler
bigger intake manifold
cold air intake
header back exhaust
chip it
usual rice mods. odd question
everyone should have a manual for their vechicle, and the library should have a professional shop manual available in the reference section for FREE to make copies of--the PRO manual has more detailed info, and may have wiring diagrams when needed...read up and fix 'em like a PRO...good luck Dave :)
Undo the 2 screws on the plastic cover around the dash. Remove it and you will see 3 more screws. Pull the clocks to the side and you will see the all the little bulbs.
you have a faulty engine coolant temp sensor (ect) i had a similar problem with my 2001 s40 1.8. the fans stayed on after switching off the engine, but also mine would rev up to 4000 rpm about 5 mins after start up from cold. replacing the ect fixed both these problems, a genuine Volvo part should cost around £40. the ect is a mojor part controlling the injection system and a faulty one can cause all sorts of problems.
Get a mechanic to do it. You obviously have no idea as to the complexity of the task. e.g valve stem seals, valve seats, warped head tolerances etc.
I've got to change mine as well, but its a 2004 model. I've been told to open the boot & remove carpet /insulation lining to gain access to the lamps . Hope it's the same for your model!
