Serious Side Effects and Serious Concerns, but still on Vyvance

I am a 24 year old girl who has tried a number of ADD medicines, including ritalin, adderall, and concerta. Vyvance has been the only ADD medicine I have taken on a regular basis, so I can't accurately desribe the side effects of the others or compare them.

I weigh 118 pounds and was started on 60mg. The first day I took Vyvance I could have sworn I just blew a gram of cocaine (and I would know). The feeling was EXACTLY the same, it was scary. I did notice that it says all over the packaging that people with a former drug addiction should not take the drug, and now I know it's because it feels uncannily similar to the feeling of being on a lot of cocaine. The coming off effects were not as dramatic though.

I was taking the medicine at 9AM and wasn't able to sleep until 3 or 4 so I asked my doctor for a lower dose. BTW when speaking with my doctor, I discovered that Vyvance is made by the same people who make adderall. I am very familiar with pharmaceutical companies and know that when a drug starts to lose its patent, it will play with the doses and molecules to basically create the same drug but file a different patent to protect its rights. Since Vyvance is twice the dose of adderall, I think it is just half as strong which is why you would take twice as much.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Heart: I am scared to death that I am going to over exert myself so I have cut physical activity out of my life while taking Vyvance. I am worried that if I increase my heart rate, I might have a heart attack or something.

Vision: I have noticed blurry vision if I stay awake after 12AM.

Mood: I am incredibly anti-social, intensely focused, moody, irratible, snap at people easily, but even weirder I have had the first suicidal thought of my life on Vyvance. I can honestly say I am a very happy person and never actually considered suicide, the first week I took Vyvance, I noticed myself conjuring these thoughts of my death and memorializing myself and what people would say at my funeral. THIS REALLY FREAKED ME OUT. I am constantly in a bad mood, but I am taking Vyvance so I can get my work done, which it is accomplishing amazingly.

Appetite: After switching to 30mgs which I currently take (and am on right now), I was happy to find the appetite suppressing qualities remained, which any 24 year old girl can appreciate. However, I found myself becoming aneorexic, (which really is defined as less than X calories per day), as I was probably consuming between 500-800. for example, I have not eaten lunch for the past 3 weeks and am finding that I don't enjoy food as much and am eating because i know I need the nutrition. I did notice that if I had to force myself to eat, the only thing I could remotely find appetizing are bagels or other carb heavy means, have no idea why though.

Based on the experience I have had, I am very concerned that children are prescribed this medicine. It does allow me to focus on my work, which it great, but the negative personality effects are dramatic and out of character. I went from being a happy cheery person to insanely focused on my work and unable to tear myself away from it, and being grumpy and unpleasant to be around. I notice that i don't want to talk to anyone.

IF YOU NOTICE IRRATIBILITY, ANGER, OUT-OF-CHARACTER BEHAVIOR PLEASE BE WARNED. I felt the same symptoms and if there are more similiarities with your child and my experience, I don't think children are capable of handling it. I think its good for adults though that can differentiate normal behavior and irration thoughts.

for me thoug m not bad to be around ill talk your ear off tho im alwase in a good mood but i tend to pick at my acny alot more and if i run out of things to do then i make something else to do also it has terribule cotten mouth x.x and for the nice woman who anerd forst it makes you feel like your heart is going to explode because it has some of the same ingredants as meth (*shudders*not a pretty sight) and possibly coke

No, it is not recommended. The highest daily dose is 70mg; taken shortly after awakening in the morning. This level of dosage (70mg) is reached after a month or more of slight (10mg) weekly increases to build up to the 70mg dose. Taking 100mg at once would be incredibly dangerous and even if you spread the doses apart (i.e. 8 am and 1 pm) it would be just as dangerous because of Vyvanse's long half-life.

Vyvanase and Adderall both exert their effect in the brain through the same active chemical (dextroamphetamine). The difference between them is that they use different mechanisms for slowing the release of active drug, and that Adderall contains levoamphetamine as well and Vyvanase does not.

Having looked over the prescribing information for Vyvanase, it sounds like the time release mechanism in Vyvanase is significantly better, and therefore you should expect a smoother 12 hours of effects with fewer peaks and valleys.

Typically, if someone has normal BP, it won't. However, if your blood pressure is already high it might cause more stress on your heart and could raise your BP quite a bit.

The binder is only going to break down in stomach acid. You need to puke and add a dab of vomit to the powder to ingest it any other way than orally

If you were prescribed Vyvanse and had been taking it for a while, you would know how the medicine acts in your body. And it's not my recommendation, but I believe then..you would be fine. You get used to the drug to where it's normal. I don't think the passengers of the plane would like to know their pilot is on anything that could interfere with him/her flying the plane.

You would be mixing downers with uppers so i would have to say it would be a bad idea, especially if you were to drink alcohol with it as well.

That is the exact dosage of adderall and vyvanse that I take per my doc and it is working well for me

Yes vyvanse does show up as amphetamines. I take a drug test every 2 weeks for my psychiatrist, and it shows up everytime but it is prescribed.

Vyvance is basically the same thing as other ADD medications except it is bonded with the amino acid lysine. Meaning that after it goes into your liver, the amino acid is removed and you are left with the active ingredient of Vyvanse, which is "Dextroamphetamine" It's designed that way to try and reduce the potential for abuse, because the drug won't work if someone were to snort it to try and get high. It only works when taken orally. It can still be abused that way.

I'm assuming that you referring to what it will show up as on a drug test. This medication will show as an amphetamine or if they do a more in depth test dextroamphetamine (the active ingredient).

Vyvanse is broken down by an enzyme in your body. Shooting it up would be the stupidest most assinine thing you could try. Your body does NOT like acids being shot into your bloodstream.

You can not plug it. You can not snort it. You can not crush it up. You can not snort it. You can not IV it, no matter WHAT you do. BASICALLY: It is ABUSE PROOF because it is completely inert until the enzyme I mentioned comes along and changes it into dextroamphetamine.

About the only thing you can do to get a bit more from an ORAL dose is to

A.) Eat protein. This causes your body to release Trypsin, the enzyme that breaks it down.

B.) Have some baking soda to adjust your body PH so it isn't removed from your body faster.

And don't even THINK about trying to shoot it up by breaking it down in a trypsin solution. Trypsin is a DIGESTIVE ENZYME. It DIGESTS THINGS. You do NOT want Trypsin digesting your organs after you shoot it up, do you?

It really depends. Untreated ADHD is associated with an increased risk of substance use and addiction, so in this case, treating the ADHD may be helpful. It also depends on what drug(s) you are addicted to. No, it isn't. The drug manufacture (Shire) has bonded the active compound (dextroamphetamine) with an amino acid (lyso?) rendering it useless when inhaled. The amino acid component only breaks down in gastric juices in the stomach; then rendering the active compound to its intended state.
