hollyleaf followed leafpool out of camp, thinking that she knew about what happened with ashfur and the storm, reasoning that squirrelflight would have confided in her sister. then straight out asked leafpool who her mother was, and got the answer "i am your mother, squirrelflight was tiring to protect me.
