Reading actually doesn't cost a person anything at all; however, it will probably cost you a little bit of money to buy whatever it is you want to read, whether that be a book, magazine, newspaper, etc. On the other hand, you could borrow reading material from a friend or relative, in which case, it would be costing them the money instead of you since they probably purchased the book. Unless they or you steal the reading material from some place - then it would be free for them or you to get it. Libraries charge a very, very small fee to get their library card, but you can use the card as much as you like to rent a certain amount of books at any one time, which would be technically free for the book since they are actually just charging you for the library card.
