NARWHAL = The males of this species, and an occasional female, bear a single, tightly spiraled tusk that measures up to 9 ft (2.7 m) in length. This tusk is an overgrown upper central incisor tooth, generally the one on the left. It is found in the Arctic and N Atlantic oceans, occasionally as far south as Britain; narwhals usually travel in groups of 15 to 20 animals. The diet of narwhals consists chiefly of cuttlefish and cod. Mating occurs in the summer, and after a gestation of 14 months the female gives birth to a single blue-gray calf measuring up to 5 ft (1.5 m). The calves are weaned at six months. Formerly hunted for its tusk, which was believed to have magical properties, the narwhal is now hunted primarily for oil.

Can a dolphin kill a whale?

First of all, a Killer Whale is a dolphin. But if you question was rephrased to something like, "Could a Killer Whale out swim any other member of it's species?" then it would be valid.

Anyway, it depends on which type of dolphin is trying to out swim the Killer Whale. The Common dolphin is the fastest, and thus could out swim a Killer Whale. When it comes to smaller types of dolphin, they are about evenly matched.

What are the breed of whales the Japanese kill?

The Japanese more or less kill every breed of whale that they can get their hands on. They are, in most countries, especially Australia, considered common criminals because they slaughter whales in Australian waters without the government's permission or consent. Also, the whalers have destroyed many protesters' boats (including the $2m Ady Gil) and damaged many more. It has since been proved that they have used spy planes launched in Albany and Adelaide to evade the protesters' boats. Australia is trying to find a diplomatic solution, but says that if one cannot be reached by November 2010, they will take the Japanese Government to court. The battle continues...

If this offended any Japanese, I'm sorry. It's not meant to be rude in any way.

Is there any realtion between dogs and whales you mean in evolution chain...3?

Evolution of Dogs to WhalesNo, whales did not evolve from dogs.

[Edit by Melissa Gordon]

Dogs and whales have descended from the same common ancestor. "The dolphins (and whales) belong to the cetacea (a phylogenic classification) and dogs belong to the carnivora. Both of these have evolved from a group called the mesonychidae." Reposted from a post by derrick kolling, Grad student, biophysics, university of Illinois urbana champaign.

To clarify, they are two different sets of species that are the great-grandchildren of a creature that had BOTH dog and whale characteristics. They just took different evolutionary paths to become the modern creatures we see today. So yes, they are distant cousins, but one did not descend from the other.

Dis advantages of whale hunting?

Like all animals, they have a vital role to maintain not only the oceans ecosystem but as well for humans. If the whales die then there would be too much krill in the ocean which could effect biodiversity of the oceans. As well whale poo helps underwater plants to photosynthesis CO2 into Oxygen. If the whales die then the oceans will die and if the oceans die then we will die as we cannot live with a dead ocean.

As well there are moral and ethical reasons for not to kill whales.

How many hearts do a whale have?

You may be confusing "heart" with "stomach." No mammal has more than one heart. Several animals have more than one stomach, or multi-chambered stomachs. These are called ruminants. a Ruminants are mammals in the order Artiodactyla. They predigest their food in the first stomach, regurgitate it, re-chew it (it is called cud now) and re-swallow it.
