How can you fight a cough?

Ways to Fight a ColdIf the cough has lasted more than 3 - 4 days and is deep within the chest please see your doctor. You don't want to get Bronchitis, Pneumonia or a sinus infection. Your doctor may prescribe something to keep the airways open and clear, but there is nothing to get rid of an actual cold. The natural source my grandmother brought my brother and I up on was Brandy (just a teaspoon when we were kids) with 2 tsps. of honey and boiling water and we'd sip on this. Keep the room cooler as warm to hot rooms can dry out the air. Keep yourself warm by wearing sweaters or cuddle up under a warm blanket. If you have no control over the heat then put bowls of water around (you'll be surprised at how quickly it evaporates) or if you can afford it get a humidifier. Sleep propped up a little so your sinus' don't drain down the back of your throat (this can cause a sore throat.) If your immune system is strong the immune system deals with the cold on it's own time.

How and when was the whooping cough vaccine invented?

Outbreaks of the disease were first described in the 16th century. The bacteria that causes the infection was discovered in 1906.
The vaccine became available in the 1940s.
B. pertussis is a small, aerobic gram-negative bacterial shaped rod.
The bacteria attach to the cilia of the respiratory epithelial cells, produce toxins that paralyze the cilia, and cause inflammation of the respiratory tract.Kendrick and Eldering are credited with the first effective vaccine.

What is the chance of getting whooping cough if you don't have the vaccine?

The research I have read indicates that if one person in the house has it, there is a 90% chance that the others will get it - but I do not know the liklihood of catching it whilst out it public (for example, whilst on public transport or in a shopping centre etc)
