Why did William Howard Taft send marines to Nicaragua?
It was on November 18th in 1909 that the U.S. sent warships and marines to Nicaragua to press for stability in the region. This was done at the orders of President William Howard Taft after Adolfo Diaz, the President of Nicaragua, requested help. It was in the fall of that year amid rising instability that Diaz informed the U.S. that the safety of U.S. citizens and their property could not be guaranteed. The U.S. response was a call to arms. In the request for assistance, Diaz asked specifically for military help protecting Americans and their interests. In a quote from his request for that military help he asks that it (the U.S.) "extend its protection to all inhabitants of the Republic," and that invited the U.S. to occupy Nicaragua - which it did. Note that it was Theodore Roosevelt, who is arguably the President who authored the best U.S. demonstration of so-called gunboat diplomacy, who sent U.S. warships to seize ports in Nicaragua in 1907 when things began to get shakey. President Taft fired Gifford Pinchot, the chief of the U.S. Forest Service, primarily due to a conflict over conservation policies and land use. Pinchot publicly criticized Taft's decisions, which Taft viewed as insubordination, leading to his dismissal in 1910. This incident highlighted the growing rift between progressive conservationists and more conservative factions within the Republican Party.

"Taft was a bad president because he was a bad politition and did not even want to be president. he only became president because his wife wanted to be the first lady. in my opinion Taft did nothing wat so ever to help us except those little reforms. so no he was a bbbbbaaaaaaaddd pres.!!!"
Most of these words are untrue, though I completely respect that the author of the article is allowed to have his own opinon. I did some research on Taft, and in my opinion, William Howard Taft was a great president. He was an amazing student who graduated from the prestigious Yale University with a doctorate in Law. He was intelligent and had good ideas, and he claimed both New Mexico and Arizona for the United States during his term. His wife, Helen Harrem's whims did not affect his decisions, by the way. He did reform things, as the author above stated, and there were no economy problems during his term, which is more than I can say for our current president. He always kept things under control, and even made some improvements on America. That's why I think Taft was a good president, even if he did get stuck in a bathtub.

The Taft-Harley act of 1947 was one of more than 250 union-related bills pending on both houses of Congress. It was a response to rising union radicalism and Cold War hostilities. It was also response to business to the post World-War II labor upsurge of 1946. It was seen as a means of demoblizing the labor movement by imposing limits on labor's abilit to strike and by prohibintg radicals from their leadership (<-- People who were typically more involved in union activites) Simply put; So many people came from fighting in the War that everyone finally wanted to settle down and make a living. America would've been in turmoil if strikes would have come up because there was just THAT many people in the union of laborers! Hope this helped!
