To cut out portions of a song in WMM (Windows Movie Maker):


Only the song/audio should be visible on the time-line view of WMM.

> Press play in the Preview window (or move the green marker bar) to a point in the audio you want to begin the cut

> Click the Split button (located just below the Preview pane on the right)

> Press play again (or use the green marker bar) to the point in the audio you want the audio to begin again

> Press Split button again

You will see that the audio has be Split (clipped) into three sections. Right-click and delete the center portion of the audio (the part you want removed).

Drag the last section of the audio backwards on the track to join with the first section.

This Split process is used to edit (cut-out) portions of the audio and video in a project.

To add a Title page on Windows Movie Maker...

In the time-line view of the program;
> Click on Tools, Titles and Credits
> Choose to place the Title "Before the Selected Clip"
> Change color, font and animation in this menu
> Click Add Title

The Preview Pane is the area on the right side of Windows Movie Maker that allows you to see a preview of the project you are working on.

With Windows Movie Maker, you can add a title, your name, the date, credits, and other text to your movie. For example, you might want to add a title to introduce a person or scene that appears in your movie.

You can add title/text to various places in your movie: at the beginning or end, before or after a clip, or overlaying a clip. The title plays for the specified amount of time, either on the screen by itself or overlaying the video as it plays, and then the title/text disappears and the video clip or picture continues.


To add a title/text or credit:

If you know where you want the title/text or credit to appear in your movie, click that location on the storyboard/time-line.

> Click Tools, and then click Titles and Credits.

> Click the link that corresponds to where you want to add the title or credit.

> In the Enter text for title box, type the text that you want to appear as the title/text or credit.

> After you type the text, the monitor displays the default animation and format for the title or credit you want to add.

> To change the title/text animation, click Change the title animation, and select a title animation from the list.

> To change the font and color for your title, click Change the text font and color, and then choose the font, font color, formatting, background color, transparency, font size, and position of the title to your liking.

> Click Add Title.

To edit an existing title:

> On the storyboard/time-line, click the title/text you want to edit.

> Click Edit, and then click Edit Title.

> Make the changes you want to make, and then click Add Title.

To change the title duration:

To make sure that you are in time-line view, click the View menu, and then click Time-line.

Select the title/text whose duration you want to change.

Do one of the following:

> To extend the playback duration of the title/text, drag the end trim handle toward the end of the time-line.

> To reduce the playback duration of the title/text, drag the end trim handle toward the beginning of the time-line.


To remove a title:

> On the storyboard/time-line, click the title/text that you want to remove from your movie.

> Click Edit, and then click Remove.

JVC (and most newer camcorders) usually import video to your computer in .MOV format. Since Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept .mov or .mp4 formatted files, you will need a video converter to convert the camcorder video for use in Windows Movie Maker.

Free video converters are available online. Simply Google: free video converters. Once you have downloaded a video converter, locate the the files for conversion. Follow the conversion instructions ensuring your "Output Source" is one of those listed below:

.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If your conversion is successful, you should be able to import the newly converted camcorder video into Windows Movie Maker for editing.

To get music off of YouTube, you would have to use a type of conversion tool. You can usually find these conversion tools by making a Google search of "YouTube to mp3," and these are thousands of sites that have these. All what must be done is the YouTube video link being copied and paste it into the bar on the conversion website. Within a short amount of time, the file will be converted and able to be downloaded.

You can't import an .mp4, .mov, .AVI file (in addition to a few others) into WMM (Windows Movie Maker) without first converting the files to one of the following file name extensions:

.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

To mute the video in WMM (Windows Movie Maker)

You must be in the Time-line mode of WMM

> Click the + button beside the word Video on the video track

> Right-click the Audio track of this menu

> Click Mute from the menu

Voila! No more audio on the video! You can also use this menu to lower the video volume level, fade the audio in/out, etc. Just remember, the + sign beside the word Video in the Time-line view opens up the menu options specifically for the video in your project.

Music / audio can be imported into Windows Movie Maker as long as the file is compatible. Drag and drop the audio file into the Music/Audio track in the Time-line view of the program. You will see the file appear in the Music/Audio track if the file is compatible.

System requirements for Windows Movie Maker depends on your video card, level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration, and whether or not you have a previous version already installed.

You have to convert the VHS to DV format before it can be imported into Windows Movie Maker. You can't import it directly from the VCR input source because it is in the wrong format.

I use a VHS to DVD program (that I purchased) to convert VHS format. But, I believe there are some free downloadable programs out there that offer it too. Try googling: VHS to DVD and see what you come up with. Unless you are going to go out and buy software to convert it, that's your best bet.

To change the credit text color in Windows Movie Maker:

> Once you've got your credit text placed, click on change the text font and color
> Click the 'A' button below the word Color
> A color menu appears. Choose a color, then click Ok.

JPEGs are not video files, only pictures. GIFs are a series of pictures set to "animate," you probably mean GIFs. As for converting GIFs to AVIs or MPGs, I'm not so sure it can be converted directly (as in, choose file, click button, convert, done type of thing).

You want to make sure the file is actually an mp3, because that format is compatible with Windows Movie Maker as well as:

.aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wma

The song has to be ripped to your computer before you can import it into Windows Movie Maker. In other words, it has to be a file on your system (and not on the CD itself).

Your Windows Media Player has a feature for ripping audio from a CD.

Once you have the audio on your computer, make sure it is one of the following formats:
