The delta wolf is 3rd in the rankings, below the alpha and Betas. There may only be 1 male and 1 female Delta wolves. The Deltas are trained to be Beta wolves by the currenct Beta, and when that Beta wolf dies or is thrown from the pack then the Delta may choose to become a Beta or stay as a Delta. The Deltas aren't extremely important, but they have a voice. Deltas cannot make decisions in the pack, unline Betas and Alphas.
Delta wolf is less talked about therefore few people know much about them. They are not interested in gathering a following nor will they be led; the lone wolf. They will align themselves with various Alphas if both see the other as true equals. Is so, he respects the Alpha's position in the Alpha's own pack. If not, he simply moves on to somewhere else to do what he needs to before returning to is own original pack.
He does not care where he lands in the pack lineup when he arrives 'home', but often becomes the Alpha by default or by defeating the original-pack's current alpha if he views them an unacceptable leader.
Or he may choose a lifetime as a Delta continually learning from and sharing with each pack he communes with. He is respected as having a purposeful life but none other ever really understands what that purpose is.
It's a wild dog, you buffoon....WILD....DOG.
A gray wolf will not attack unless threatened
A wolf may be endangered because of people hunting them. Zoos and other wildlife places are trying to save them and bring there population back up. Wolf hunting is very cruel to me. It takes another wolf one by one.
How far can a wolf run in one day?
It all depends on the training that the dog has had. Just like humans a dog can not get off the couch and do a 50 mile run. They have to start out slow and work their way up in training distances. Some of the top dogs in the world can run more than 120 miles in a 24 hour period. These dogs will have thousands of training miles in before they get to this level. They take breaks during these runs and do not run 120 miles straight through. Most will run in cycles of 4 hours on; 4 hours off or 6 hours on 6 hours off or whatever type of runs the trainer has conditioned them for.
Red wolves are not extinct, they live here where i live, north carolina, they live here more to the beach in the back woods, they kind of look like a coyote
Addendum to above answer:
The red wolf population in North Carolina was introduced back into the wild to bring the animal back from extinction. The wild population consists of about 100 animals and is still considered highly endangered although from what I've read, and based on the answer above, they seem to be thriving. As far as why the red wolf went extinct in the wild to begin with, they went extinct because a) they were heavily hunted because they were considered to be a threat to livestock and b) habitat loss due to agriculturalization.

How heavy is a wolf cub at born?
It depends entirely on the individual wolf and its age. For the first two weeks of their lives, pups can gain as much as 2.6 pounds per week if they're female and 3.3 pounds per week if they're male. From three weeks to one month of age, they can weigh between 3 to 5 pounds. From 12 weeks of age until they are mature (1-3 years old), they can weigh between 22 to 30 pounds. So you can see there's a whole lot of variation in there.

What does Omega mean in a pack?
The omega is the lowest ranking wolf in a pack. There is usually only one omega in a wolf pack (I think). The omega is picked on by other members of their pack. Omegas are important because the other wolves can pick on them to relieve stress and settle arguments, therefore reducing tenseness and grudges in the pack. Just a personal theory, but the omega might also keep the pups of the pack busy and happy by giving them attention so the mothers can have free time.

How does a gray wolf eat its prey?
HUNTING
Grey wolves get their food the same way ever other wolf get their food by hunting the next available small animal (not anything poisonous).
they hunt for it.
Wolves normally hunt in packs, running down sick, lame or young animals and killing and eating them on the spot.
Grey wolves have no critical natural enemies, although bears sometimes dig up wolf dens to kill and eat young wolf pups. The grey wolf's only critical enemy is the human, who unhumanley shoots and poaches the wolf. We also cut down their forest homes and use their bodies as hunting trophies or to sell. Some horrid people also capture wolves as pets in cages and sell them for dirty money. So those evil wolf killers out there are the reason why the wolf is slowly disappearing from the world, and are wolves main enemies.
