Rest assured, you are not weak. You are using your lungs in a different way to take the deep breaths needed to play a musical instrument with good support. If you get dizzy, take a break for a couple of minutes and begin again. As you continue to practice and learn more about the instrument you will become used to this deeper breathing. Singers and other wind instrument players also have this happen, so you are not alone. Keep up the work, music is fun (I have been playing clarinet for almost forty years).

Are selmer aristocrat saxophones junk?
Not junk. They're a good student sax, but vary depending on their age. the Aristocrat line was introduced by Buescher in the 1930's as a professional instrument. By the time Selmer bought Buescher in 1963, designs had advanced and the 'crats were considered intermediate instruments. Selmer continued to use the Buescher tooling for some time but hasn't for some decades. More recent instruments are made in Taiwan, and I don't know whether they have anything in common with the old 'crats, but they are still considered good student saxes.

The Cavalier line of band instruments was established or launched in 1931 by the Conn Ltd subsidiary or division Pan American Band Instrument and Case Co. While dating by serial number for Cavalier is yet to be established, the relatively low number would indicate a dating between 1931 and 1935. Currently a study is being conducted to try to establish dating for the Cavalier line similar to that which has become accepted for the Conn and Pan American brands.
Why can't you get sound out of my clarinet?
Well therecould be many reasons. One is you are putting to much mouth on the mouthpiece and remember to have teeth on top folded lip on bottom. Another reason is your reed is either to soft or to hard. If it is to hard you usually get no sound or very little sound. If your reed is soft you squeak more than usual. The last reason is you need to clean out your instrument. If your sound is very airy then that is probably why.
Are first act clarinets good quality clarinets?
No. I have heard that you can break those clarinets in half easily. Are you looking for a beginning clarinet? If you are to get any clarinet, I would invest a little bit more money and buy a brand like Selmer, Yamaha, or a Buffet B12. Those are good brands for a beginning clarinetist.

What is the minimum scale tempo for ABRSM exams?
Minimum scale speeds are listed in the ABRSM publication These Music Exams, starting on page 31. I've attached a link to the free PDF of this publication.
Also note what they say on p. 19: "The suggested minimum scale speeds are published as a guide only. Speed can be a contributory factor in the examiner's mark, but even and secure scales are always a better foundation than fast and accident-prone playing." Good advice.
Good luck with your exam!
