Was the airplane invented during the 17th to 18th century?

technically no - there were successful attempts at gliding and using kites to lift a man into the air at least as early as the 17th century but no one that early understood how wings/lift worked and so couldn't design or build an airplane that flew consistantly or predictably - kites carrying people are not really a type of plane even though they are a flying wing as they become uncontrollable as soon as their line is cut

lift was not understood until about the 1890s, mostly with the wind tunnel experiments of the wright brothers, which is a major reason they were successful as they were the first to fully understand why wings work

How old were Orville and Wilbur Wright when they heard about Otto Lilienthal?

Why did the Wright brothers want to invent the airplane?

Since the brothers were young they had been interested in aviation. Wilbur's mature interest was first triggered by an article on Otto Lilienthal in an issue of McClure's Magazine in 1894. Lilienthal made gliders. While his interest was triggered, he became a serious thinker about human flight in 1896, when the same Otto Lilienthal was killed accidently during a glider flight. Photo's of Lilienthal and his gliders made this serious interest of Wilbur. Wilbur than began to study bird flight. to study his conclusions more he wrote a letter to the Smithsonian institution in May 1899, asking for more study material. Around this time Orville got as enthusiastic as his brother.

They were tinkerers and inventors who liked to invent mobiles (it was a passion)
What they did do was to build the first heavier than air craft which flew. Powered flight. Kittyhawk, North Carolina 1903. Lighter than air craft had been around for a long time before that.
If by why, you meant what made them decide to do it, it's human nature to invent things. They saw birds fly and thought why can't man?
becouse they wanted faster transpertation they first found this by paper.
When they stopped getting laid by hot looking females in their area and realized that they needed to conquest new territory (Had to slay some more pussy somewhere else) and knew that walking or driving would take too long.
The Wright Brothers were inventors and we always looking for improvements in existing inventions. They believed that powered flight was possible and set out to prove it.
so that they would be able to fly

How did airplanes change society and science?

They changed science since the Wright brothers made a breakthrough that men can travel faster over water and land in less amount of time. No people can travel greater distances then they could before in a less amount of time. Now men can fly like the birds. Also, in wars, the airplanes can fly over the battle fields and drop bombs down to the enemey's camp creating an easier way to victory. There are many different ways as to it change society, these are just a few.

When did passengers first start traveling by airplane?

Very early flights for passengers were usually for pleasure rather than travel. It was such a novelty! As far as I know, the first scheduled flights for the public began to operate in about 1912, but only over short distances. Anything much more than 30 miles or so was rare at that stage. Austria claims to have been the first country to have had regular scheduled long-distance air services. Apparently they started to operate early in 1918 on the route Vienna - Krakow (now in Poland) - Lviv (now in the Ukraine). In 1918 these places were all in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Unfortunately, I don't have the mileage, but the distances would have run to some hundreds of miles. NOTE. Please check this, as it seems very early for the kind of distances. In the early days, flights seldom operated every day of the week and air travel was very expensive. Some years years ago I saw a replay of a film made in 1938 (so on eve of WW2) by British Imperial Airways of a flight from London to Bombay (now Mumbai) and Delhi, both then in British India. From what I remember the journey took three days. The passengers spent each night on the ground at a hotel and all dressed up terribly elegantly for dinner. :)

Where did the Wright Brothers make their first flight?

Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The first controlled, powered, heavier-than-air flight on 17 December 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
At kitty hawk at devil's hill.
they tested it in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
The Wrights flew most of their aircraft at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
It was actually made from Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina not Kitty Hawk. And in Kill Devil Hills there is a hill named Kill Devil Hill. That is where they took off from on that first flight with Orville Wright as pilot on December 17, 1903.

What things have been affected by the making of the airplane in 1900 by the Wright Brothers?

The Wright Brothers invention changed many aspects of our world. Economically, it started the foundations of a huge industry, generating such companies as Boeing and Airbus. It changed warfare forever, by taking the fight to the skies and providing a more accurate means to use explosive devices. The airplane has broken down cultural barriers by opening trade up to nations that were once considered 'too far away' to bother with. No longer have humans been restricted to the boundaries and restrictions of land, but have been able to go above and beyond them with the airplane.
