Yes. You have to have a memory card or the last 360 your gamertag was on had to be an arcade version. If you have a memory card, simply go to the last xbox it was on. The look up the gamertag by going to the hard drive's memory, then gamerprofiles. There will be 2 options, delete or move. click move then move it to the MU. If you only have a hard drive you can move it the same exact way but it has to be on an xbox arcade system because these have built in memory units unlike the other 360s.

Not necessarily, because most of the time lag is coming from the host's internet connection, and he/she is the one responsible for hosting the game. But it never hurts to increase your internet speed so like unless it's costing you go for it.

EDIT: If you are truly don't want any lag, get about a 1mbps+ upload and you should usually be the host in about every game, that should be plenty to host up to 12 players with little to no lag. If you don't wish to host, then try increasing your download, and don't go into foreign lobbies, over sea hosters are terrible with a lot of lag.

Silver is the next level up, allowing you to do some things online such as talking to people in a private chat and seeing other people online, but not allowing to actually play online. Gold Membership (being the highest type of membership) is the fullest experience, where you can talk to people in multi-person parties, add friends to your friends list and play online on any game, at any time.
