Generally, it is understood that a human and a zombie cannot reproduce as zombies are depicted as reanimated corpses without functioning reproductive systems. The concept of a human-zombie mating scenario is usually seen in fiction and is not based on any biological possibilities.

Actually, to be true, zombies were created by a virus. A virus is said to have entered our Earth somewhere in the 1800s. When people and animals die, they may by chance get infected by the virus and become a zombie.

Reported cases of "zombies" have come out of Haiti.

Reanimated corpses of the dead, however, are a thing of myth.

1. Aliens make them rise up, so they save themselves the trouble of having to fight us themselves.

2. A virus gets brought back from Venus, or maybe a weird radiation.

3. The U.S. Army leaves containers of toxic zombie creating waste near high schools, usually in a building that is just perfect for underage drinking and teen highjinks.

4. A very amoral company called The Umbrella Corporation accidentally releases a virus, which in spite of blowing up Raccoon City is not contained.

5. Animal Rights fools let rage-infected animals out to bite us.

Typically, zombies are stopped by destroying the brain or cutting off their head. Fire can also be effective in stopping a zombie by completely burning the body. It's important to remember that zombies are fictional creatures, and different stories may have varying rules for how they can be stopped.

I don't know that they 'live' so much as they 'exist' since they are the reanimated dead. But I assume they dwell wherever they happen to shamble.

The weaknesses of a zombie are based upon the type of zombie. They are usually divided up into infected 'living' zombies and undead reanimated zombies. You need to find out what motivates them how long they last and how they are 'powered'.

Living zombies are vulnerable to all major weakness of humans. Asphyxiation, starvation, dehydration, blood loss and organ failure can all kill one.

Undead zombies are very different as there are no rules. Burning with fire or dissolving with concentrated acid will destroy any biological creature. Undead zombies must be motivated in some way and this will provide the ideas to kill them. For example, if the brain is still working then removing the head, destroying the brain or cutting the spinal column with also work.
