In North America, wolves, wild/feral dogs, mountain lions/cougars, black bears, grizzly bears, coyotes, rattle snakes, pythons, alligators and bobcats are primary enemies of cattle. On numerous occasions, packs of coyotes have been known to kill calves, either by chasing them until exhaustion or by a surprise attack when the momma cow isn't paying attention. Feral dogs or dogs that are not feral but are simply having the run of the countryside are a threat to cattle and have been known to kill livestock.

In other countries, other animals that are enemies to cattle include, in Africa, lions, hyenas, cheetahs, African wild dogs, crocodiles, leopards, rhinos, hippos, elephants and cape buffalo are animals that often threaten cattle herds. In Asia, tigers, asiatic lions, bears and wolves are common enemies to cattle. In Australia, wild dingos, sharks, and crocodiles and in South America, cougars, jaguars, caiman, wild dogs and wolves are common enemies to cattle.

Cattle also consider us as "enemies" even though we convince them otherwise since we are the ones responsible for their health and well-being.
