I would suggest replacing the thermostat, it sound that more than likely it has stuck in the open position
Actually, I just changed mine and it was stuck closed, preventing it to flow warm fluid. There is also a secondary pump, that was not working on mine. wired it to the fuse box, and now I have heat and proper temp reading.
Usually engine temperature and sometimes oil temperature.
unhook the positive on the battery for 5 min. This should reset your check engine light if it doesnt then you still have issues.
Look for a brass object with a two wire connector screwed into the intake near the thermostat housing.
The fan will not turn on till your vehicle is at operating temperature. Check it again when the engine is hot.
The sensor used for displaying the engine coolant temperature on the gauge in the dash is located near the thermostat housing. I have included a link that has pictures that show its location. Just click on the pictures to enlarge them. When you do, you can see the wires that go to the sensor. Good Luck, Greg
Running at operating temperature around 40 psi.
all thermostats are located in the metal housing where the top radiator hose is clamped to the engine intake manifold. it has to be positioned where the fluid leaves the engine in order to regulate the temperature.
There are several reasons this could be:There is no coolant in the engine to trigger the temperature gauge, this will cause complete engine failure very quicklyThe gauge, wiring or sender are badThe engine temperature control thermostat has jammed open or it has been removed.
Hi, The "easiest" way to see if the sensor is bad is to connect a scan tool to the van that is capable of reading and displaying the engine coolant temperature. If it appears to be changing in a reasonable way (goes up as the engine warms up, goes down as the engine cools), then the sensor is probably OK. If you do not have a scan tool, then you could use a multimeter to actually measure the sensor values (resistance) as the temperature of the engine changes. Just set the multimeter to the Ohms or Resistance scale, and check the values of the sensor when the engine is cold and as it warms up. Again, this value should change as the temperature changes. I have included a link that shows the location of this sensor (look at the bottom row of pictures). Good Luck, Greg
my temperature gauge on my car bmw 318i give me error reading its reach red zone while the engine is cool and i already change the temperature sensor why?
Temp sending unit for ecm. most likely sensor is bad computer cant read engine temp, fast idle do to cold reading
A normal temperature reading for a vehicle would be between 180-192 degrees F. Temps of 200 and higher can damage an engine.
