The advantage of physical punishment is that it is very convincing; if you wish to inspire fear, this will do it. The disadvantages are that it is also emotionally scarring and may lead to life-long resentment or hatred, and in addition, it could lead to charges of child abuse if children are the object of your punishment, or charges of assault in the case of adults, if the punishment is too severe. Also charges of murder, if the punishment proves to be fatal. The events at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, under the Bush administration, are a cautionary tale.

There is limited evidence to suggest that corporal punishment can lead to immediate compliance or behavior change in some cases. However, research overwhelmingly shows that it can have negative long-term effects on children's mental health and behavior, increasing the risk of aggression, antisocial behavior, and mental health problems. Additionally, it can strain the parent-child relationship and hinder the development of effective communication and conflict-resolution skills.
None and it is illegal in most jurisdictions.
Opinion
Actually, I believe that corporal punishment is a good thing because it teaches the child that there are consequences for what it does.
Advantages of corporal punishment
Corporal punishment saves a lot of time. The teacher can get it over with very quickly. They don't have to write out letters to the parents or stay after school during the student's detention. From the teachers point of view it gives them allot of satisfaction because they are beating a child. For the pupils it is a very good deterrent as it makes them stop and think before breaking the rules and regulations. They will ask themselves 'Do I really want to get caned?' The advantage for the pupil is that is very quick and they don't have to worry about detention and letters home etc...
These advantages would run a school in those days and the teachers would think that corporal punishment was the only resort to sort out the behaviour of a child. They would not really use any other method and this ran into more problems like the incident in the chapter 'Mrs.Pratchett's Revenge'. Corporal punishment is a good way to sort out the behaviour of pupil and yes it is very effective bet the punishment may, in some circumstances be a little exaggerated.
- kids will listen up the first time
- Make an example of a kid who disobeys
- Gets you respect if your willing to throw down.
- Alot less day dreaming and texting if they get beat
... and...
given the legal principle that one cannot consent to assault, corporal punishment is probably a criminal act - we just need a few million dollars to run a case to the Supreme Court,
kids learn not to get caught, and never to own up,
it's OK for a big person to hit a little person,
folks in power make the rules, and enforce them with violence, and
people who are brutalised as children are more likely than not to brutalise their own children.

I was told a story from my teacher About a Boy that used to be in her class and he stole and all that but one day he got caught and the principle took him when it happens to be a field day and spanked him he actually felt more loved after because he felt that some one cared because his parents were bad so he just felt good and now he's a business man so god bless him!!!!!!he changed.
The children will work more and obey rules.

Positive effects of sharecropping included providing opportunities for freed slaves to earn a living and have some control over their work. However, negative effects included trapping farmers in cycles of debt and poverty, as they often ended up owing more to landowners than they could ever earn. Sharecropping also perpetuated economic and racial inequalities.
Some positive effects of Reconstruction on Southern society included the establishment of public education systems, infrastructure development such as roads and railroads, and the granting of civil rights to newly freed slaves through the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. These changes helped to lay the foundation for a more inclusive society in the post-Civil War South.

Positive effects may include job creation and economic growth, while negative effects can include environmental damage, displacement of communities, health issues from pollution, and social unrest. It is important for mining companies to engage with local communities, mitigate negative impacts, and contribute to sustainable development.
