Asked by Wiki User

I feed my poodle IAMS dog food. You can also feed them:steak, pork chops, lettuce, tomatoes, apples, oranges, carrots, non-chocolate cereal,(sugar-free), chips, milk, fruit,(no bananas),and cheese.Poodles love raw eggs to.DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING GREASY!!!!!

Another answer:

Poodles should not eat table food except they can eat: green beans, lettuce, apples, carrots, and not much else. Some foods are too acid for them like: tomatoes, oranges, lemons. Mostly feed your pet his dog food because most foods like: cheese, raw eggs, chocolate, chips, candy, are not good for our pets. If you want to feed your dog give him small chips of ice they really love it.

Why are poodles groomed like that?

User Avatar

Asked by Hugh Luettgen

That very specific grooming style (the shaved parts, the floofy tufts) actually has some thought behind it. Beyond evoking the French aristocracy, that is.

Poodles weren’t bred to lounge and look down on us plebs—they were bred to be retrievers. That pattern of hair is intended to speed up their swimming while keeping their vital organs and joints warm.

A poodle’s coat is also pretty difficult to maintain. Since it’s so curly and thick, it gets matted easily, requiring frequent brushing. Shaving or closely clipping parts of the dog can help make that more manageable.

How do you potty train a tea cup poodle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Very small pups can be difficult to housetrain, for three main reasons. First, they physically have much smaller bladders, so will need to eliminate more frequently than larger breed pups. Second, small breeds like chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers take longer for their muscles to develop, so they can't hold it until they're at least 20 weeks old. Thirdly, very small pups can be sensitive to the cold, which can make their bladder muscles freeze up and stop them going outside (that's why they look like they need to go, then when you take them outside, they don't go, then five minutes later they're asking to go again!).

My advice is to train them to go in a particular spot indoors. Many people use pee pads, but I'd recommend a special indoor dog potty system - my chihuahua uses an Ugodog, but I'm sure other ones are good too. This is a good idea because very small dogs won't ever be able to hold it for more than three or four hours maximum. If you ever need to leave them that long, especially at short notice, it's good to know they've got somewhere to go.

Don't ever get angry with them for making a mistake, and keep them under constant supervision. Take them to their spot when they wake up, after a drink, after a meal, after playtime and whenever they start to sniff the floor and look distracted. Give lots of praise and treats for getting it right!

What brand of food is the best for poodles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are many good brands of dog food you can buy, Eukenuba and Iams to name a few, but I would recommend a dry kibble because poodles are prone to have more tooth decay and gum disease than other breeds of dogs. A semi-moist brand of food is fine too, just brush their teeth more often. Ask your vet for suggestions.

Does a toy poodle stay little forever?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes they do, it is because of their genetics. The toy poodle was bred from miniatures, which in turn were bred from standards. Each generation, the smallest of the offspring were bred together, causing the average size of the offspring to become smaller, as the genes for above average offspring were not being passed on. Eventually when the desired size was reached, the breeding was not as tightly controlled as before, so even within the breed their is a range of sizes. However a toy poodle will never grow to the size of a miniature poodle for example, as the genes for this size have been bred out.

How do you care for my miniature French poodle?

Tips: 1. Make sure it has its shots before going out(PAY ATTENTION! It's very tempting to show your baby off to other people, I know) Puppies require about 3 rounds of shots separated by 1-2 week intervals, until they have had all of them, the previous shots are of no use, your puppy is still not immune to illness. Parvo is a killer among puppies, and can live in an area for up to a YEAR, it is NOT safe to take your puppy anywhere other dogs have been, or been touched...safest place for your puppy is at home until all the shots are complete. 2. Give it good food. If your puppy is still small and can't bite or chew yet, soften and mash the food with water and a spoon. Clean its bowl before and after giving it food. Also, give it clean water and be sure to check if there's still a lot left every couple of hours. 3. Buy a nice bed or cage. Have a separate place where it can poop and pee and train it to go to its business there. 4. If it you catch it in the act of chewing or pottying in the house, point your finger at it and say a loud and firm"NO!". Do NOT scold the dog unless you see him/her doing it, or else he/she will have no idea what you are scolding him for. Don't ever hit your dog or rub it's nose in it's urine or feces, you are only installing fear, and the dog will hide to do it's business in the house, making your job more difficult in potty training. 5. When you bring it out, put it on a leash, a carrier or stroller. Make sure you put newspaper on the bottom of the carrier. Bring a water bottle and make it comfortable. Bring food in case it gets hungry or if you go out when it has its feeding time. When you bring it on vacation, bring all the things that are necessary for your trip or vacation. If you want, you can buy some dog diapers or baby diapers and pierce holes in them. 6. Buy it chew toys, squeaky toys or any type. As long as they have some and you don't want to play with them, they'll be happy to amuse themselves. Make sure to check back though. ;) You never know what will happen if you leave a bored dog with a stuffed toy. 7. If you're going to give it a bath, use warm water and good shampoo/conditioner/soap. Be fast because you don't want your dog to be freezing and maybe getting bath phobia or catching some sickness. Blow dry it for shih tzus. :D 8. NEVER feed your dog chocolate, chocolate is toxic to canines. :D

9. Excercise. A daily 45 minute walk is good. 10. Give it lots of love and care, socialize it, play with it and have fun!!! These tips apply to poodles and shih tzus too. :D Hope this helps! 11: Poodles should be groomed atleast once a month, or no longer than every 2 months if kept up at home. Use a comb, not a brush to get all the way down to the skin. Feed a healthy diet. RAW is the best diet out there, commercial dog food is HORRIBLE regardless of price or how well it's advertised. It's safe to feed dogs chicken, they are immune to Salmonella, unlike humans...infact, we are the only ones who COOK our food for good reason. Start with chicken, and after a few weeks, let them have at it...beef, pork, ribs, tripe, raw eggs..etc, ....research! 12: Don't hit your dog! EVER!
