What age do chihuahuas ears stand up?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

CHIHUAHUAS

i own two chihuahuas, and when i got the first one, she came with her ears up, but she was a couple of months old, the second one's ears came up after a couple of weeks of having him, so i am assuming that between the first couple of weeks or months, the dogs ears should come up.

Your chi's ears will stand up when the cartlidge in it's ears has strengthened. You may notice that at times it's ears will be up then they'll flop down a little while later...that is normal. Your chi's ears should be fully up when it's reached a couple of months old.

Are english bull terriers loyal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Though this breed was once a fierce gladiator, he is much gentler now. A Bull Terrier might have a preventive effect and it might defend it's owner in a truly critical situation, but it isn't bred to be a guard dog. Courageous, scrappy, fun-loving, active, clownish and fearless. The Bull Terrier is a loyal, polite, and obedient dog. They become very attached to their owners. The Bull Terrier thrives on firm, consistent leadership and affection and makes a fine family pet. Bull Terriers like to be doing something and fit in well with active families where they receive a great deal of companionship and supervision. They do not do well in situations where they are left alone for 8 hours a day. With the right type of owner this breed is a joy to own, but not recommended for most households. Fond of both grown-ups and children, but if they do not get enough physical and mental exercise they may be too energetic for small children. Children should be taught how to display leadership towards the dog. Meek owners will find them to become very protective, willful, possessive and or jealous. Bull Terriers may try to join into family rough housing or quarrel. They need very firm training and lots of exercise. Bull Terriers must be given a lot of structure, or they may become destructive. Be sure to socialize them well and remain their pack leader 100% of the time, otherwise, they can be extremely aggressive with other dogs. Unaltered males may not get along with other male dogs. They are not recommended with other non-canine pets such as rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs. They make excellent watch dogs. This breed can be somewhat difficult to train.

Are bull terriers good guard dogs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

2nd Answer:

Yes. They were originally bred back in England around the 1800s to be the guard dogs for the gameskeepers who guarded the King's estate. People would often poach game on the King's estate & that was a big no no then. So the Bullmastiff came into being. Originally bred from 60% Mastiff & 40% bullmastiff was the foundation breeding. But keep in mind that back then the Bulldog was much larger & more aggressive. The breed was bred to pin & hold their prey, not to savage it as the King liked to hang the poacher in public as an example to other would be poachers. It also had to be a quiet & gentle breed so that it could live with the Gameskeepers & their families & to hunt by the Gameskeepers side which meant that they had to be quiet. The breed was recognized in the United States in the late 1920's I believe.

The correct spelling is "Bullmastiff", all one word.

1st Answer:

Yes because they are very muscular and defensive and they are very protective.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Because they are mean ,inconsiderate people or they are training them for dog fights, which only mean inconsiderate people attend.

well some what that and many people are mean to pit bulls because they probably heard "oh well, some pit bull injured someone." or some say "stay away from pit bulls, they're dangerous animals." and so on.so basically, judging with out knowing what they're talking about. but pit bulls are really sweet at heart and I would know because I have a blue nosed American Pit Bull Terrier.Other wise like a lot of conversations on here...Bad Trainers creates Bad dogs.

Do you have to have a lience to breed an English bull terrier?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you are breeding for the AKC or another established dog club, you need registration. However, if you are breeding "just to breed" or for money (also called backyard breeding), you may want to hold out. Dogs can carry genetic defaults (Hip Dysplasia among others) and passing along those defaults only adds to the large number of poorly bred dogs to begin with. Dog breeding is also VERY expensive - can you care properly for the puppies? This includes worming and puppy vaccines. What if your dog has complications during labor, can you afford an emergency vet visit? There are many things to consider before breeding your dogs, and sometimes the answer is to NOT to breed and to fix your dog. There are too many homeless dogs (purebred and not); breeding your dog should not be a priority unless you are improving the breed by "breeding out" genetic defaults and common problems with the breed.

What is the difference between AKC and NKC?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The AKC does NOT register American Bulldogs. The American Bulldog is not a mixed breed and can be registered with both the NKC (national kennel club) and UKC (United Kennel Club).

It is not recognized by the AKC for several reasons including the fact that the breed's original Breed club the ABA (American Bulldog Association) as well as many other AB fanciers are firmly against AKC recognition. Many are afraid that recognition by the American Kennel Club will be detrimental to the breeds working heritage; one look at AKC German Shepherd Dogs will give you the reason behind this fear.

There are two varieties of the American Bulldog: the standard and the bully. The NKC, which is the third oldest All Breed Registry in the United States, recognizes the two standards as two varieties of the same breed. This is similar to the AKC Beagle standard which has two varieties, the 13" and the 15", of the same breed. At NKC sanctioned conformation events the Standard dogs are shown separately from the Bullies until the Best in Show. United Kennel Club only recognizes one variety of the standard which is often referred to as the Hybrid Standard (a blend of the standard and bully).

The Bulldog and The English Terrier- (now extinct) originally known as the Bull-and-terrier. The pure white English Bull Terrier was bred by Mr James Hinks a dog dealer from Birmingham between 1850 and 1862. Due to the white bull terrier having problems with deafness breeders experimented with cross breeding the white bull terrier back with its coloured decendants to get the brindle or red coat.
