I would like to say that those three books are in my school library; They are not banned.
Three examples of banned books? Here you go:
Cujo
My Brother Sam is Dead
Nineteen Minutes
Also:
Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was first banned in the 1890s because Twain's informal style of writing and use of colloquial language was new to the world. During the 1960s civil rights era, certain black
communities failed to understand Twain's satire and labeled the book as racist. Even after a century, some schools still ban the book despite the fact that Mark Twain was a public advocate for racial equaliy.
Other banned books have included TROPIC of CANCER, LITTLE BLACK SAMBO. GO ASK ALICE. To Kill a Mockingbird. Many more books have been banned over the years because someone was offended by drug or sexual activity, or believed something concerned and/or glorified the occult, or the book contradicted someone's political or religious beliefs.
Yes, some of Walter Dean Myers' books have been banned or challenged in various schools and libraries. For example, his book "Fallen Angels" has been banned in some places due to its language and depictions of war.
Salman Rushdie's books have been banned as was Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species. Khalil Gibran, Chinua Achebe, John Anthony Burgess, Rebecca Wells and Robert Jordan also had books banned. But more surprising was the banning of books with Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants.
Some banned books in Indonesia include "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, "Laskar Pelangi" by Andrea Hirata, and "Islam Without Extremes" by Mustafa Akyol. These books were banned due to their content being deemed sensitive or potentially disruptive to public order.
There is no record of any of the Ranger's Apprentice books being officially banned. However, some individual schools or libraries may have restricted access to certain books in the series due to content concerns.
Most people are unaware of what books have been banned (since the ban was successful). As for more popular books that have been banned in some places (like "The Satanic Verses"), some people are simply not aware of the controversies that the written word can provoke.
Yes, some of James Patterson's books have been banned or challenged, such as the Alex Cross series for containing violence or mature content that some deem inappropriate for younger readers.
Some books that have been banned over the years by government include:Alice's Adventures in WonderlandAmerican PsychoAnimal FarmThe BibleBlack BeautyCatch-22The Da Vinci CodeThe Diary of Anne FrankFrankensteinGreen Eggs and HamLolitaMadame BovaryNineteen Eighty-FourUlyssesSee the related link below for a full list which includes the reason for the book having been banned.
It depends on where you are. The Torah is banned in some of the more stringent Islamic countries and banned for non-Jews in several others. It was also largely banned in the Soviet Union. (Also, in acts of anti-Semitism, Torah-scrolls and books have been burned many times throughout history.)
It has been claimed that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was banned in Hunan Province, China. This claim seems to have originated from a single source, Banned Books 387 B.C. to 1978 A.D., by Anne Lyon Haight, and Chandler B. Grannis, R.R. Bowker Co, 1978, but there appears to be no corroborative evidence to substatiate the claim available online.
it has not been "banned".
Banned from what? To my knowledge, it hasn't been banned, and has been on TV.
In the past books have been inappropriately banned in order to keep the people as ignorant as possible to control them better. Other reasons might be that those in authority are fearful that others would be offended in some way or that the book would incite some sort of negative reaction or behavior.
