After the bombing of Pearl Harbour, Nazi Germany declared war on the USA, which would have allowed them to attack American shipping in the North Atlantic. Roosevelt and Churchill agreed to pool their resources which would mean British forces training in America and American forces being stationed in Britain for the anticipated invasion of mainland Europe which eventually started on D-Day - 6th June 1944. Britain on its own would not have been able to carry out that invasion due to overpowering manpower and firepower of the well defended French coast. The population of the US is about five times that of the UK, so their extra manpower was essential.

∙ 14y agoWhen War World II started, the US was neutral, but as the problem exploded they became really involved. During the Battle of Britain, although they still consider themselves neutral and had no intentions to join the war, they started sending arms and munition on to Great Britain. In this way, the US helped Great Britain survive the cold hands of the Nazis.

The U.S only supported Britain after Hitler had cancelled Operation Sealion, which involved the suppression by bombing of Great Britain. U.S forces were vital to the Normandy landings that occured after Great Britain had won the Battle of Britain. However, many Americans did go to England and join the RAF to fight. The US was not fighting in the war(Pearl Harbor was yet to come). There were many Americans who felt it was their duty to help England and China fight these enemies.
