well, i know that Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh are now countries, and they weren't before the partition of 1947, if that helps. also, India used to be controlled by Britain, and now its a separate country. that's about it, i think.

Bombay (now known by it's Indian name of 'Mumbai') became capital of a unified India under the British Empire until Edwardian times, when the British transferred the capital to Delhi.
